On the Queens Birthday long weekend from 9 – 11 June, there is no programmed club activities on Albert Park Lake. Club Racing then resumes on saturday 16 June. A Working Bee has been programmed for 9am – noon on 16th June to cleanup and undertake maintenance in our clubrooms, boatyard, boats and equipment in preparation for the upcoming regattas.
We need a good turnout of club members to help out. Come down in old clothes. Bring some gloves if you have them. Also looking for a leaf blower or two. Club Racing in the afternoon commences at 2pm will a long course format for senior and youth classes, and short race format for Opti and Minnow junior classes.
Albert Sailing Club is hosting two major regattas in June and July. We are looking for a good turnout at each.
* Albert Sailing Club’s Annual Winter Regatta is on saturday 23 June (pm) and Sunday 24 June (am and pm). The regatta takes a short course format with races, usually of 30 to 45 minutes duration in the northern half of Albert Park Lake. The Notice of Race and online Entry is available on www.albertsc.org.au . We strongly prefer ASC members and visitors to enter online, whether sailing one or both days.
* The 2012 Australian Schools Teams Championships is being hosted by Albert Sailing Club from Thursday 12th to Sunday 15th July. This will be a big event wtih 22 schools teams competing. Intensive planning is underway. We need a good number of volunteers on each of the four days, particularly for shore based roles. Please consider your availability and emailvicecommodre@albertsc.org.au or add your name to the list in the club foyer.
The Albert Sailing Club general committee had its May meeting in the clubrooms on tuesday 5th June. We had again had a full agenda with the key items the upcoming two regattas, the working bee. Anyone who is interested in the minutes from the previous Committee Meeting can email secretary@albertsc.org.au for a copy.
The Australian sailing team for the 2012 Olympic Games in London was finalised on Monday. The team consists of 13 members who will compete in 8 classes in the Olmpics event to be sailed off Weymounh in southern Enbland. The team includes Krystal Weir from Sandringham Yacht Club, Victoria in the women’s Laser Radial class. Congratulations Krystal.
