Thursday Snippets 16th of August

On saturday 18th August we have week 1 of the 3 week Bill Hooper Series, with the first race start at 2pm, and 1.15pm information session. The series is named after Bill Hooper senior who founded Albert Sailing Club in 1948 and was our first Club Commodore. This is a short course series, with a number or short races planned each week of the series. On saturday from 6pm we have our Winter Social, the Trivia and Winter Presentation Night, in our ASC clubrooms. We look forward to the catered meal, the trophy presentations and the Trivia fun being hosted by Cindy Tilbrook who has been finalising the content and format this week while up in the snow country. Trophies for junior classes will be presented at 5pm.

On saturday 25th there is a one week break in the club sailing program. A two day Scouts Regatta on the Lake is in the Parks Victoria programme for that weekend. The Bill Hooper Series 2 race will be on the following saturday, 2nd September.

The Bill Hooper Series 2 race will be on saturday, 2nd September. Saturday 2nd is also the deadline date for material for the September issue of our Mudpuddler Newsletter. We need people to send articles (short or long), photos, poems etc. to our Newsletter editor helencvjetan@bigpond.com. We are looking for items of intrest to followon from the article on Steve Haintz’s marathon canoe trip down the Murray which appered in the last Newsletter.

The Melbourne forecast for saturday 18th looks good for those who have been waiting for some exciting sailing in stronger winds. A cold front is expected on Friday, which should moderate as saturday progresses ?

It was great to see sailing as the most successful sport of Australia at the 2012 London Olympics. The TV and media coverge was more than the sport has ever had at an Olympics. Here are a couple of clips from the Internet which are doing the rounds.
