Thursday Snippets, 11 February

On Saturday 11th February the summer season re-commences with Summer Series 1 club race at 2.30. In the morning, week 2 of the February Learn to Sail course from 9.30, and Vic Schools Teams racing from 8.30 to 11.30. Look out for Usain Bolt and his entourage on saturday. The third Nitro Athletics event is on at Lakeside Stadium from 5.30pm. It will not effect parking during the day, but may make for a slower traffic exit at the end of the afternoon. There is also a Nitro themed fun run around the lake from 8 – 9.30am which will slow down but not stop access to Aquatic Drive over that period.

The Interclub Top of the Bay Regatta at Elwood on Saturday 4th was a frustrating and ultimately disappointing sailing afternoon. The southerly sea breeze was in late morning, but then spent most of the afternoon fighting a wind from the north. This meant generally light to ‘drifter’ shifting breezes, with the best sailing before the start when the course had to be reset when the wind swung from northerly to southerly. Just after 4pm the Race Officer decided to abandon racing when there was no apparent wind in sight. Then, of course, 15 minutes later a nice southerly sprang up which provided a run home for the Port Melbourne, Williamstown and Altona fleets which had sailed to Elwood for the Regatta. Who said you sail in better winds on Port Phillip !

The February ASC general committee meeting is on tuesday 14th in our clubrooms at 7.30, with all members welcome.
