Thursday Snippets, 3 March

Autumn has arrived and we have Summer Series 5 club race on Albert Park Lake on Saturday 6th from 2.30pm. Also another Green Fleet improve your sailing session from 10am for adults, youth and juniors, with option of afternoon ‘green fleet’ sailing. Additional car parking arrangements will again apply. First option is to park as normal in Aquatic Drive or Albert Road. Otherwise parking possible in gravel areas next to the club for cars with Parks Victoria parking permits. The club has also reserved some car spaces in Aquatic Drive for use if other options not available. If parking in the reserved spaces, leave bollards and tape in place, and no need to purchase parking ticket but place $3 in bowl on ASC galley servery.

On sunday March 6 all roads in the Albert Park Reserve will be closed until 11:30am for the Grand Prix Cycling Criterium event. For people travelling to the club on Saturday 6th/ Sunday 7th the traffic in Punt Road from River Yarra to Commercial Road will again be heavily impacted by closure of Punt Road and Toorak Road intersection for tramworks.

On sunday 28 February we had a very successful community service Fun Day at ASC for families and friends of children with brain tumours. The next day we received an email “A massive thank you to Don and all the volunteers who helped on the day. You all worked so hard and it was really appreciated. Such a great day & great team effort!” from Samantha Wright – Founder of Brain Tumour Ahoy Hoy

The March ASC general committee meeting is in our clubrooms from 7.30pm on Tuesday 8th. All members welcome.

We are trying to establish a junior school holidays sailing program for 3 days in early April. Details will be on www.albertsc.org.au mid March, with emails out to a many families juniors as we can.

March is going to be a quiet month for sailing on Albert Park Lake. Our next club race, after the race on the 5th March is on Saturday 2nd April. In between is Labour Day long weekend, F1 Grand Prix weekend and Easter. Note that the Albert Park Reserve will be completely locked down from 12.01am of Tuesday 14th to 12.01am on Tuesday 21st March for the F1 Grand Prix. Some roads will be closed two weeks either side of this period with access generally available through steel gates on Albert Road.

We all hope for some rain in March for our gardens, ovals, and Albert Park Lake.

Rod Thomas
Immediate Past Commodore
