Plenty on at Albert Sailing Club on 24th/25th weekend. Summer Series 3 club race and another junior Green fleet sail in the afternoon of Saturday 24th. On sunday we have our monthly social sailing day and continuation of the Summer Learn to Sail program from 9.30. There is a ‘cold front’ with possible showers and a wind change predicted for sometime Saturday. Suggest check forecasts Friday evening on http://www.bom.gov.au/vic Summer Series and training programs continue on Saturday 3rd March.

Thursday Snippets, 15 February

Club sailing day on Saturday 17th with Learn to Sail program in morning, junior Green Fleet from 1pm and Summer Series 2 club race at 2.30. The club will be open Friday twilight from around 5.30 to 9pm. ASC members and visitors are invited down to sail and/or socialise with the Australian Sailing Women’s & Girls Group. Another full weekend on 24th/25th February weekend. Summer Series club race and junior Green Fleet on Saturday. The club will be open all day Sunday 25th from 9.30am with a full day session for the Learn to Sail group and the monthly Social Sailing sunday. Thursday Snippets, 8 February

Saturday 10th February there is full day of sailing at Albert Sailing Club. From 9.30 we have Week 2 of the Summer Learn to Sail course, with 7 adults and 5 juniors. Late morning there is a junior Green Fleet start racing session, then 1 – 4pm Week 1 of the Term 1 junior Green Fleet program with 11 pre-enrolled. At 2.30 is the ASC Summer Series 1 club race.
There are other activities in Albert Park Reserve on Saturday to note. The Queen’s Commonwealth Games Baton relay is coming through the park at 9.30am, and Lakeside Drive on the eastern side of the Lake will be closed till 10am. Athletics Victoria have the final of their 2017/18 Shield competition at Lakeside stadium across the day. Parking useage in Aughtie Drive behind ASC will vary across the day with peak likely to be in the afternoon. If parking in Aughtie Drive is full, you can park in gravel areas either side of club if you have a Parks Vic Sports Club parking permit. If it is full and you do not have a 6 monthly or annual pass, then stop kerbside behind ASC clubrooms and come inside to Galley and seek out Rod Thomas. Rod has a small number of passes which can be purchased from him for parking on gravel area next to the club if required.
A number of our junior Optimist sailors are sailing in the Schnapper Point Regatta across the weekend and we wish them good sailing. The February ASC General Committee meeting is in our clubrooms on Tuesday 13th from 7.30pm. Finally, there is a Responsible Serving of Alcohol course provided at no cost by City of Port Phillip on evening of 5 March. We always need people with RSA accreditation to serve in Doug’s Bar. Thursday Snippets, 14 December

On Saturday 16th December there is Junior Green Fleet Sailing program from 1pm and others down at ASC for some casual sailing. Victorian Women & Girls in Sailing groups sailing on lake from Boatshed at 6pm on Friday 15th followed by drinks at ASC. Wednesday 20th the club will be open from 1pm till sunset or a little later. Have an afternoon or late afternoon/twilight sail. Bringown boat or club boats available for members. An RS Zest has been booked for tryout sails. Sausage sizzle style BBQ and drinks on ASC balcony from 6.30ish.

This is final Snippets for 2017. Best wishes for the upcoming festive period. The ASC program re-commences with club race on Saturday 13th January.

Thursday Snippets, 7th December

Last saturday of club racing for 2017 on 9th December, with a Memorial trophy race at 2.30. Also on the water we have Learn to Sail course (am and pm) and junior Green fleet session from 1pm. Off the water there is a Glass Painting Session in clubrooms from 2pm. Following sailing till after sunset we have our annual Pre-Christmas Social function, with BYO BBQ. After the poor weather of 2 of the last 3 weeks we hope for something reasonable on the weather front.

The final ASC date for 2017 is on wednesday 20th December with afternoon/twilight sailing, followed by drinks and BBQ on club decking.

The December issue of our club’s Mudpuddler Newsletter plus the 2018 club Handbook were mailed out on 4 December. A big thankyou to our editor Naomi, and to our flag officers and other members who made contributions. An online version of Mudpuddler has been placed on home page of our club website www.albertsc.org.au

Thursday Snippets, 30th November

ASC club trophy race on Saturday 2nd December at 2.30. Spring junior Green Fleet program from 1pm on December 2nd and 9th. $30 per session for ASC juniors with Registration on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/. Also Sail Melbourne Regatta at Royal Brighton this weekend, sith 6 ASC juniors entered,

On Saturday 9th December ASC’s end of year trophy race, followed by after sailing Christmas breakup function. All members and family welcome. Bring your own BBQ or other main course, nibbles, and a salad to share. Club bar will operate and club will provide desserts. We hope to see our new members at tje Christmas get together. It gives an opportunity to catch up with other members, and enjoy a relaxed celebration of our sailing year.

Wednesday 20th Pre-Christmas afternoon/twilight sailing with club open from 1pm. Sail own boat or club boats available for members for whatever period suits. Drinks and BBQ on club decking, People who have been members or have sailed at ASC in the past most welcome.

We had a number of ASC sailors competing in Go for Gold Regatta at Black Rock on weekend of 24/25 November. Mike Horvath, who is a past member who stills sails with us in Winter, was the Ok dinghy class winner in a fleet of 13. Ron Fergusson finished 3rd in the Aero 7 class.

Thursday Snippets, 23 November

Another full weekend at Albert Sailing Club on 25/26 November weekend. On Saturday 25th November, members Information Meeting at 12 noon, then Spring Series club race at 2.30, and junior Green Fleet program from 1pm.

On Sunday we have Week 4 of Learn to Sail program and Social Sailing Day from 9.30 am. For social sailing sail your own boat or for club members one of the club training boats not being used in the Learn to Sail program.

On Friday 24th the Victorian Women & Girls sailing group will be at Albert Park Lake, 6 – 9pm. Sailing session in Boatshed boats or own boat from 6pm, followed by Drinks and BBQ in ASC clubrooms. ASC members and friends have been invited to participate, Go to Women & Girls in Sailing Facebook for details and registration.

On Saturday 9th December we have ASC end of year trophy race and after sailing Christmas breakup function. All members and family welcome. Also Albert Sailing Club’s junior Green Fleet programme on Saturdays from 1pm – 4pm has been extended to include December 2nd and 9th. It is for juniors aged from 8 to 12 yo in Ozi Opti who have completed Tackers (level 2 or above) or similar learn to sail programme. Boatshed Instructor. The fees are $30 per session for ASC junior members with Registration for one or both extra sessions on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/.

Thursday Snippets, 16 November

Our next club sailing day is on Saturday 18 November. Learn to Sail program Week 3 in the morning. In the afternoon Spring Series club race at 2.30, and junior Green Fleet program from 1pm.

On Wednesday 22nd November there will be Opening of the Australian Sailing State Sailing Centre in the newly renovated Boatshed next to ASC. The Boatshed is putting on a free Discover Sailing session from 4:30pm – 7:30pm ASC members and friends of members invited with Ozi Optis, Pacers & Hansa’s available for sailing or sail your own boat. Thursday Snippets, 9 November

The weather looks perfect for sailing this weekend with mid 20’s both days and light to light/moderate winds both days. A full day of activities at Albert Sailing Club on Saturday 11th. Spring Series club race at 2.30, with junior green fleet in Ozi Optis from 1pm. In the morning there is week 2 of the Spring Learn to Sail program for adults and juniors. We also have a stand alone Intermediate training session for any members wanting to improve their skills, with a particular focus on tacking, gybing and sailing upwind. A number of club training boats are available for hire. Ideally register for Intermediate training online through https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/

No organised ASC club activities on sunday 12th. If you are coming down to Albert Park Lake, there are some road closures in the Park and surrounding suburbs in the morning for the City to Sea Fun Run and Walk.

The weed cutter has been out on Albert Park Lake the last couple of weeks and is due to continue till later in the month. We have not been provided with a plan of areas of the Lake to be addressed. Earlier indications were that the northern part of the Lake would receive specific attention, and hopefully this is the case.

The October ASC general committee meeting will be held in our clubrooms on Tuesday 14th at 7.30pm. Members as always are most welcome to attend. Also the ASC Mudpuddler Newsletter is to be compiled later in the month. Prepare your contributions and send to Naomi through mudpuddler@albertsc.org.au

Thursday Snippets, 2 November

With an ‘extended’ long weekend (for some), ASC has a social sailing day on the 4th with option of a scratch race or two in the afternoon. Also on the 4th We will be the first in Australia to look at and sail a couple of brand new RS Zest class boats. They are being supplied by the Australian distributor Tom Pearce and will be evaluated as potential training boats. The Zest can be configured to sail 1up or 2up. On Cup Day Tuesday there will be some people down from mid morning for some sailing on the Lake, subject to reasonable weather.

Saturday 11th November will be another big day at ASC. The club’s Spring Series resumes with Spring Series 4 club race at 2.30pm. In the morning there is the second week of the Spring Learn to Sail program. Also as an addition to the program an Intermediate level training session focussed on tacking and gybing. This is for members who want to improve their sailing including and will be lead by two of our senior Instructors Don McKenzie and Rod Thomas. An online registration form will be placed on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/ by sunday 5th.
