On Wednesday 19th December Albert Sailing Club has Pre-Christmas Twilight sailing from 5pm. This is the club’s last scheduled activity for 2019. Club open from 4pm. Casual sailing, with option of informal short race at 6.15. Invite for members, family and friends, and ex members to join us for a sail and/or BBQ and drinks on the club decking.

Saturday 15th December no scheduled ASC club sailing, but provided weather is OK there will be people down for some casual social sailing from mid morning to mid afternoon. There is a junior relay athletics meeting on at Lakeside Stadium all of Saturday so parking behind club is likely to be tight. Members with an annual Parks Victoria paking permit can park on gravel areas either side of club, if no parking available on road behind ASC.

Victoria’s largest sailing regatta is on a Royal Brighton from Thursday 13th to Sunday 15th December. Those who who want go racing on Saturday, can try Williamstown and Albert Sailing Club.

Albert Summer sailing season of club races re-commences on Saturday 12th January. There is a couple of 3 day junior school holiday programs in January, and the Term 1 junior Green Fleet programs on Saturday 2nd February. Details and registration now open for the junior programs on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/ The Summer Learn to Sail program commences on Saturday 2nd February with details on www.albertsc.org.au. On the Australia Day weekend Yarrawonga Yacht Club has its annual regatta on Lake Mulwala. Cindy Tilbrook is travelling up to be the Race Officer for the weekend. Some other ASC members have participated in past years and reported on a good laid back regatta.

This is the final Snippets for 2019. Have a good holiday season over the next few weeks. Enjoy your sailing if you are sailing at Albert Park Lake over the holiday period or taking your boat away to sail another inland waters or salt water venue. There are a number of ASC families travelling to Hobart for the Optimist class nationals and the Wilson family to Sydney for the Mirror class world titles, and we wish them well in these events.

Thursday Snippets, 6 December

On Saturday 8th we have final club race for 2019. Briefing at APYC at 1.45 for division starts from 2.30. Club training boats available to Learn to Sail program participants, junior Green Fleet sailors and broader membership for casual sailing in morning and club race or social sailing in the afternoon. Drinks in clubhouse and on decking after racing followed by informal Christmas breakup. BYO main course food with BBQ available. Bring a salad to share if you can. The club will provide dessert. Be prepared for some communal Christmas singing lead by the Commodore and enjoy some Christmas cheer.

Thursday Snippets, 29 November

Friday November 30th Twilight Social with option to Sail. Club open from 4.00 p.m. Come down at a time that suits, which can be after school, after work or whatever. Socialise on the decking or inside clubhouse. The BBQ will provide food and the bar will be open. Members, ex-members, friends and visitors all welcome.

On Saturday 1st there is club race at 2.30 with the Race Officer ASC’s Cindy Tilbrook. The Learn to Sail group have their final Week 5 session in the morning from 9.30. There is an option for them to sail with an experienced member in the afternoon. If you are a member who could sail with a new member in the club race, send an email to Geoff Saliba via sailing@albertsc.org.au or speak to him Saturday morning or lunchtime. The Junior Green Fleet group have there final program session from 1pm. From 4pm or soon after, the juniors, their parents and Instructors will come together on the ASC clubrooms decking for some drinks and nibbles. Club members who are down Saturday afternoon invited and encouraged to join in.

ASC Christmas Breakup on Saturday 8 December after the final club race for 2018. Drinks after sailing followed by BYO BBQ foods or alternate if you can stay on. The call has gone out from the Commodore to come prepared to sing a Christmas song or two and enjoy some Christmas cheer. Thursday Snippets, 22 November

Sailing at ASC on both Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th November. On Saturday there is club race from 2.30, junior green fleet program from 1pm and Week 4 of 5 week Learn to Sail course from 9.30 to 12.30. On sunday there is the monthly social sailing day for ASC members and guests, with club boats available subject to weather conditions and experience level.
For the saturday afternoon club races on 25th and 1st December, participants in the Learn to Sail program and newer members have the option to sail with an experienced club member. Any more experienced members available to assist by skippering a boat can email Geoff via sailing@albertsc.org.au or speak with Geoff on Saturday morning.
Ron Fergusson is back in his Aero 7 across the weekend, sailing it in the Go For Gold Regatta at Black Rock.

Thursday Snippets, 15 November

Saturday 17th November there is a weekly club race at 2.30, with junior Green Fleet session from 1pm. The big Learn to Sail group have week 3 of their 5 week program from 9.30 – 12.30, with option for them to stay on over lunchtime and sail with an experienced club member in the afternoon club race. Late afternoon after sailing there will be winter season/ Bill Hooper Series trophy presentations, followed by BYO BBQ and the annual ASC Trivia Night. Will Team Whelan repeat last year’s win or will another bunch of Trivia tragics come through to claim the ASC Trivia Trophy ?

ASC’s Anna Cripsey is in Myanmar this week sailing in a fleet of 129 boats from 16 countries in the 2018 Asian and Oceanic International Optimist championships. Go Anna

Thursday Snippets, 25 October

Saturday 27th there is a club race from 2.30 and junior Green Fleet program from 1 – 4pm. Then on Sunday 28th we have Day 1 of the ASC Spring Learn to Sail program from 9.30 to 4.30. There is a good mix of 17 adults and juniors registered, so looks like a busy day. Other members welcome to come down for a social sail.

Albert Sailing Club’s Discover Sailing Day on sunday 21st was very successful with over 100 people taken out sailing and enjoying the lunchtime BBQ on our upstairs club decking. A range of clubs in Melbourne have there Discover Sailing Day on sunday 28th October including : Port Melbourne Yacht Club, Albert Park Yacht Club, Elwood Sailing Club, an Royal Brighton Yacht Club. Check out details on their club websites. They provide a good opportunity to try sailing on the Bay.

Thursday Snippets, 18 October

The ASC Discover Sailing Public Open Day is on sunday 21st October 10am to 3pm. Everyone welcome to come down for a sail with us on our club boats on Albert Park Lake, and find out more about the club and its activities. Come down for an hour or more. BBQ and drinks on club decking over the lunch period. Also a Victorian Laser Association Laser 4.7 Transition Day session at ASC in the morning from 10am, provides a good opportunity to those with an interest in taking up sailing a Laser 4.7 class boat. On Saturday 20th ASC Summer Series club race at 2.30 and junior Green Fleet program from 1pm.

The ASC Spring Learn to Sail course for adults and juniors commences with an all day session on Sunday 28th October.

Details and registration for the Discover Sailing Day and the Learn to Sail course are on the home screen of www.albertsc.org.au.

The Victorian Mirror Class Championships are being sailed at Blairgowrie YC over the 20th/ 21st October weekend. It will be a small fleet, with Albert well represented by 2 possibly 3 Mirrors. Good sailing to the Mirror sailors.

On 10/11 November Westernport Yacht Club is conducting the 2018 version of its well organised and popular annual Women On Water Regatta. Details are on https://www.revolutionise.com.au/westernportyacht/montalto-women-on-water-regatta/ They currently have 30 entries, mainly in single handed Sabre and double-handed Pacers, with Novice/Intermediate/Advanced groupings. From ASC Pam Webster and Edwige Kozinski have entered, with Cindy Tilbrook to be involved in race management. If you are a female member with an interest in participating check the website and speak to Pam, Edwige or Cindy.

Saturday 13th October, Summer Series 2 club race which is doubling up as resail of Bill Hooper Series 2 race from September. ASC’s Cindy Tilbrook is the Race Officer for the Day. Division starts from 2.30 which now applies till April 2019 following change to Daylight Saving period last sunday. Sailpast for APYC and ASC members at 2pm, with information session at 1.30. There is an invite for ASC members to APYC’s informal Start of Season lunch’ from 12 noon, with bring a plate of food to APYC by 11.30. Also the Term 4 junior Green Fleet program which runs weekly from 1 – 4pm on Saturday till early December commences.

Thursday Snippets, 4 October

Albert Sailing Club’s Spring Series of club races commences on Saturday 6th with starts from 2pm. No programmed sailing on sunday 7th. Any members down on the 7th should minimise use of upstairs clubrooms and galley, as the clubrooms have been hired for a function of a club member.

The October ASC committee meeting is on Tuesday 9th at 7.30, with non-committee members as always welcome.

On the weekend of 27 – 29 October three ASC juniors travelled north to sail in the NSW Youth Championships on Lake Macquarie. In a fleet of 120 Optimists, Phillip Cripsey finished 6th overall including a 2nd placing in the final heat, with Tana and Anna placing in the top half of the fleet. The Spring Regatta season in Victoria commences with Sail Sandy at Sandringham YC on 13/14 October and we wish good sailing to our ASC juniors and any seniors who compete.

Thursday Snippets, 27 September

On AFL Grand Final weekend, ASC monthly Discover Sailing social day from 10am. Bring family or friends down for a holidays sail. Will extend into afternoon if people down who want to continue sailing. On Saturday APYC have a working bee, followed by BBQ on their clubhouse decking and Grand Final on their big screen. ASC members can sail morning/into early afternoon then invited to join with APYC members for lunchtime BBQ with option of staying on.
