A big weekend at Albert Sailing Club on 15th/16th September.
* On Saturday 15th Bill Hooper Series club race with division starts from 2pm. There is a casual sailing option from 10am, and club training boats are available for use by members to sail morning or afternoon. Club members, visitors and guests for Saturday evening function will have access to the upstairs ASC clubrooms up until 2pm. Upstairs clubrooms will then be closed from 2pm to 6pm for function preparations. In the afternoon tea and coffee facilities will be available in the downstairs training room. APYC have offered the hospitality of their clubrooms for sailors/others after club racing. Alternatively, anyone wanting to socialise after racing or arriving for the function late afternoon can mingle with others in the ASC downstairs training room or boatyard. For those arriving by car late afternoon you need either a parking permit or to purchase an all day $5.20 parking ticket from the machines in the parking area.
* ASC’s 70th Anniversary Celebration Dinner is on the evening of 15th. We look forward to a good evening of socialising, food, fun and celebration. The evening commences with pre-dinner drinks and savouries from 6pm. After the function cleanup of clubrooms will be important. We ask for some members to stay around for half an hour or so after close for immediate cleanup with sunday morning for final clean-ups. Also for those travelling home to northern or eastern suburbs be aware of AFL football traffic around MCG after 10pm and that Punt Road will be closed for overnight roadworks from 11pm.
* On sunday 16th September there will be the Try Laser 4.7 transition session from 10am, and VIODA Optimist class winter training program from 1pm.
It is now 1.5 weeks to the junior school holiday program from Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th September. Juniors either sail a club Ozi Opti or their own Optimist or Minnow class boat. The Term 4 junior Green Fleet program commences a couple of weeks later on Saturday 13th October. Further details and online booking for both these junior programs is via https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/

Thursday Snippets, 20 September
On Saturday 22nd September we have race 3 of the 3 race Bill Hooper series at 2pm, with APYC the host club for race management and after race get together. Last week’s Bill Hooper 2 race was cancelled with some squally winds and rain showers from late morning. This week the forecast for saturday (as at Wednesday evening) is for 20 degree maximum and winds less than 10 knots all day. A good day for people to return to sailing on the Lake after a winter break. Club training boats will be available for use by members who need a boat for social sailing or for the afternoon club race.
This coming week there is an ASC junior school holiday program from 9.30am to 3pm from Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th. Members and their families welcome to come down for a sail on Wednesday, either in own boat or a club RS Zest or Laser. On the Grand Final weekend there is a casual social sailing day from 10am on sunday 30th.
The 70th anniversary dinner on Saturday 15th was a very enjoyable evening for the 100 odd current members and partners who attended. A big thanks to Cindy Tilbrook for organising the function and to those who assisted with preparations on the day. A photo of the special 70th anniversary cake has been uploaded onto the club’s Facebook.
