Social Sailing at ASC from 10am to 2pm, and possibly beyond on AFL Grand Final Day. Club spring sailing season commences on Saturday 7th October, with 2.30 start time.

Upcoming in October, we have our annual Discover Sailing Public Open Day, 11am to 4pm on Sunday 15th. We need members to help with setup and operations on and off the water on the day, either 10am to 1pm, 1pm to 4.30, or the full day. Send an email to commodore@albertsc.org.au if you can assist. Also upcoming is the Saturday afternoon junior Green Fleet program on Saturday afternoons from 14 October and the Spring Learn to Sail program commencing on sunday 29th October. Another successful school holiday program was held over the past week, with participation by 15 juniors across the 3 days. A big thanks to Edwige who again organised a worthwhile school holiday program and the weather gods for some decent sailing weather.

Thursday Snippets, 21 September

Race 3 of 3 of the annual Bill Hooper Series on Saturday 23rd at 2pm. Another windy day with winds from the northerly quarter predicted. Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th we have our ASC Spring holiday program, 9.30 to 3pm each day. Juniors mainly sailing club Ozi Opti boats on the Lake and having fun !

The Trivia Night last Saturday was a great success. Thanks to Dawn and Phil who organised the annual winter social event and David Bock our master Quiz Master. The Trivia win was shared by two tables comprising the Commodore, and members of his extended family and friends. They came with a rush in the last double points round.

The ASC winter-spring Mudpuddler Newsletter was mailed out to members last week and placed on the home page of our club website www.albertsc.org.au. Thanks again to the Newsletter Editor Naomi. Thursday Snippets, 14 September

A Full day of activities at ASC on Saturday 16 September. Laser Class Activate Day from 9am. Bill Hooper Race 2 club race from 2pm. In the evening we have ASC’s annual Trivia Night including a spit roast food meal from 6pm, preceded by short Winter season trophy presentation at 5.30. Register on Home screen of www.albertsc.org.au by Thursday evening at latest for Trivia night. Ideally pre-Register for Laser Activate Day on www.albertsc.org.au or Late Registration on the day.

On sunday 17th over 30 Optimists are expected to participate in the final session of the Victorian Optimist Association winter training program. The program has been on most sundays since early June. The junior Optimist sailors from a range of Melbourne clubs, including Albert Sailing Club, have shown significant improvements in their skills through the program. We wish them all well as they return to sail in programs and races at their own clubs and in a series of Regattas being held in coming months.

The 3rd and last race in the Bill Hooper series is on Saturday 23rd. The ASC Spring Sailing season commences on Saturday 7th October, with our annual Discover Sailing Public Open Day on Sunday 15th October.

On 25/26/27 September (week 1 of the school holidays) ASC has its next Junior School Holiday program Details and Registration again on www.albertsc.org.au. Also a junior six weeks non-competitive junior Green Fleet program from mid October, with details and registration link now active through albertsc.org.au.

Thursday Snippets, 7 September

On weekend of 9 and 10 September no ASC club racing, with the Women & Girls CitySail event at Albert Park Yacht Club. Casual sailing on Lake possible both days provided give those participating in the Regatta a wide berth. On the sunday afternoon it is also the second last week of the Optimist winter training program.

Full day of activities at ASC on Saturday 16 September with Laser Class Activate Day from 9am, Bill Hooper Race 2 club race from 2pm. That evening we have ASC’s annual Trivia Night including an informal meal from 6pm, preceded by short Winter season trophy presentation at 5.30. To help the organisers Register by Tuesday for either or both the Trivia Night and the Laser Activate Day via www.albertsc.org.au

The next ASC general committee meeting is in ASC clubrooms from 7.30 on Tuesday 12th September.

On 25/26/27 September, week 1 of the school holidays, ASC has its next School Holiday program for ASC and other juniors aged 8 to 13 years of age. Sail own boat or hire an ASC Ozi Opti. Thursday Snippets, 31 August

On Saturday 2nd September we have race 1 of the 3 race Bill Hooper series. Also day one of the 2 day Mum’s and Girls weekend for the Victorian Optimist Association – have a good weekend girls !

On Thursday 7 Sept there will be some introductory training for Top Yacht results processing at Hobsons bay Yacht Club in Williamstown @ 18:30. The club needs a few more people to be trained up and available to use this software. If you are interested in learning, and possibly attending the session contact our Rear Commodore Steve Dunn.

No ASC club racing on weekend of 9 and 10 September, with the Women & Girls Citysail event at Albert Park Yacht Club. Thursday Snippets, 24 August

On saturday 26 August there is a club working bee from 9.15. Usual cleaning and maintenance activities plus Aerial II anchor positioning work. Come prepared in older clothes, and work gloves if you have them. No ASC club racing with the annual Sea Scouts Regatta on Albert Park Lake. APYC have their AGM followed by a race from 2pm, which ASC members are welcome to sign on and sail in.

Contributions for the club’s Spring Newsletter are due this weekend. Send your pictures, articles, etc. to Naomi via mudpuddler@albertsc.org.au.

Upcoming at ASC in September we have :

Thursday Snippets, 17 August

The 7th and final race of the Winter Series is on Saturday 20th August from 2pm. The VIODA junior Optimist class training continues on Sunday 21st, also from 2pm.

No club racing on weekend of 26/27 August, with the annual Sea Scouts Regatta on Albert Park Lake both days.

The club’s Spring Newsletter is fast approaching. Articles, photos, etc. are needed. Send your contributions to mudpuddler@albertsc.org.au by 26 August.

Thursday Snippets, 3 August

On Saturday 5th August a Winter Series resail has been scheduled to replace one of the Series races not able to be sailed the last two Saturdays. 2pm start time, with 1.15 Information Session. Geoff Saliba is ASC Race Officer for the day. VIODA junior Optimist winter training program continues Sunday afternoon. Should be action on the Lake both days with moderate winds from North west and westerly quadrants being forecast.

The next ASC committee meeting is on Tuesday 8th in our clubrooms. We welcome back our Commodore John Whelan who has been away for most of June and July.

Thursday, 27 July

On saturday 29th July we have Winter Series 5 club race scheduled for 2pm start. ASC is lead club for Start Boat and Duty. We are a RIB crew (driver+1) short. With a BOM forecast for moderate/ possibly strong Northerlies (again!), we will need a couple of volunteers for RIB on the day. On sunday 30th Don McKenzie will have club open from 10am – 1pm, provided the weather settles as predicted. Club single handed training boats available for members to sail, subject to OK on the day. The VIODA junior Optimist class training continues sunday afternoon.

Thursday Snippets, 20 July

Our ASC Winter Sailing Season re-commences on Saturday 22nd July with Winter Series 4 race at 2pm, and Information Session at 1.15. On Sunday 23rd the Victorian Optimist Association winter training program recommences at 2pm. The Ocean Racing Club Victoria has booked the ASC clubrooms for a Radio Training course 12 noon to 5pm, so we need members and VIODA members visiting the club to only use downstairs and boatyard areas.

Welcome back to some more of our overseas travellers who are coming from the summer conditions of Europe to the pleasures(?) of a Melbourne winter.
