No ASC programmed activity on weekend of 14 – 16 July with APYC Junior Wintersail Coaching Regatta. Don McK will be at ASC from 10am to lunchtime on Saturday for anyone looking for access to Boatyard or to sail. Colin Webb expects to be on foreshore between ASC and APYC most of saturday and sunday with his grandchildren sailing in the junior regatta. Access to Aquatic Drive behind ASC not available on sunday due to an Athletics road event.

ASC Winter series re-commences on Saturday 22 July with club race at 2pm.

Thursday Snippets, 6 July

ASC Midwinter trophy race on Saturday 8 July, with 1.15 Information Session for 2pm start. Club training boats available for members. If you are interested in sailing a Pacer in the afternoon race with an experienced club member contact Rod via sailing@albertsc.org.au ,ignoring any email undeliverable message. Aero class boat supplied by Victorian Aero distributor also available for more experienced member.

Thursday Snippets, 29 June

ASC Winter Series club race on Saturday 1 July, with 1.15 Information session for 2pm start. We need 1 or 2 people to take times in the Tower on Saturday afternoon, with our regulars taking mid-winter breaks. Knowledge of Top Yacht software is not required. Our annual ASC winter regatta was a success last week with six short course races, good fleets, and good sailing across the two days. Results have been placed on http://results.albertsc.org.au/ and plenty of photos on Albert Sailing Club Facebook. Big thanks to our Rear Commodore Steve Dunn, Race Officer Cindy Tilbrook and the many members who assisted in on and off water roles.

Finally. for this week, thanks to those members who have checked the Club key/card listing which is on the table near the guestbook in upstairs of clubrooms. A reminder for others to ensure their key and card is correctly listed before we cancel non listed cards at end of July. Thursday Snippets, 22 June

This coming weekend we have ASC’s annual Winter Regatta. Preferred online entry, notice of race and sailing instructions on www.albertsc.org.au. Short race format. Information session at 1pm for starts from 1.45 on Saturday. Then Sunday (am, pm). Late entries possible up to Information Session. With a cold front predicted Friday night there should be moderate winds across the weekend which will be a welcome change from the light winds over the last month or so. Visitors sailing, spectating or enjoying the warmth of our clubhouse welcome as always.

As at 9am on Thursday 22nd there were 45 Regatta entries. An up to date listing of entries by name and clas will be published on www.albertsc.org.au at approximately 1pm Thursday. There are a couple of ‘demo’ Aero class boats in 7 or 5 sq metre sail configurations available for the weekend for club or state level sailors. Email sailing@albertsc.org.au if you are interested.

There is a special invite to Optimist, Minnow and Open Bic sailors and their parents and anyone else interested to a Presentation for junior sailors in ASC clubrooms 12.20 to 12.40 on Saturday. This precedes the 1pm Day one Information Session. Krystal Weir and Mark Tonner Joyce, two experienced Laser class sailors and coaches will present and discuss Laser 4.7 Pathway Training and Development programs.

On sunday 18th The Yachting Victoria annual Presentations were held at Sandringham Yacht Club. Congratulations and well done to :
* Luke Tupper, one of our past Commodore’s, a joint winner of Race Official of the Year for his efforts with Schools Sailing and as a State sailing judge.
* Finn McMahon, one of our ASC juniors who won the season long Victorian Cup for the Optimist class and was a nominee for the Junior Sailor of the Year (nominated by ASC).
* Kate Hyde, Victorian Sailing Instructor of the Year. Kate is Chief Instructor at Rye Yacht Club and was contracted to ASC through the the Albert Park Boatshed as lead instructor for ASC’s April School holiday and ASC’s Term 2 Saturday afternoon green fleet programs.

Thursday Snippets, 15 June

Winter season club race at 2pm on saturday 17th, then the ASC annual Winter Regatta on 24th (pm) and 25th June (am and pm). This should be another good regatta. This year there are worthwhile prizes this year for overall placegetters on YV yardstick courtesy of some insurance from key insurance group. Go to www.albertsc.org.au for Notice of Race and online Regatta Entry, with entry required for ASC members and visitors from other clubs sailing one or both days.

On sunday 18th the Laser Association will be at ASC for a training session focussed on starting commencing on water at 9.30, with VIODA Optimist training in the afternoon. Late morning of Saturday 17th our new Mudpuddler Newsletter Editor Naomi will be down at ASC for labelling of Newsletters for pickup and postage

The club secretary is currently updating our membership data on security keys and cards A listing is being posted on the club noticeboard with member details. We would appreciate if those who have a key/card could check off that information is correct by end of July, or if unable to get to club contact secretary@albertsc.org.au. Cards not listed will be cancelled.

The Melbourne Boatshow is on 16 – 19 June at Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Limited number of dinghy sailing displays. Whitworths Chandlery in Elizabeth Street usually have good discounts for Boat Show weekend and could be worth checking out if you are in the market for new gear.

Thursday Snippets, 25 May

On Saturday 27th May we have Autumn Series 3 club race at 2pm. A couple of demo Aeros will again be available for use by ASC members from around 1130 provided weather is OK. On Sunday 28th there is a social sailing day from 10am, subject to reasonable weather. Sail your own boat or a club boat. The Australian Sailing Women’s & Girls group will be visiting from 1.30 for a sail in Boatshed Pacers and mid afternoon drinks and nibbles. Direct any queries re: sunday to Don McKenzie.

Thursday Snippets, 18 May

Autumn Series 3 club race on Saturday 20th May at 2pm. A couple of demo Aeros will be at ASC again this saturday and will be available for use from around 1130 provided wether OK and Ron Fergusson our Aero champ makes it to ASC. From around 1000 there will be some more work on racking in Aisle 1 in preparation for the arrival of junior boats over the coming weeks for winter sailing.

On Saturday 6th we had our annual presentation night, then AGM where the ASC general committee for 2017/18 were duly appointed. We to have a good crowd stay on for a meal and good fellowship. Thanks to Naomi, Don and Edwige for organising.

Thursday Snippets, 11 May

ASC’s winter season is underway with Autumn Series 2 club race on Saturday 13th May at 2pm. The Virgo women’s event listed in the calendar will not be held this saturday. From around 1000 there will be some work on racking in Aisle 1 in preparation for the arrival of junior boats over the coming weeks for our winter sailing.

At 5.30 on the 13th the presentation of trophies for 2016/17 will be held in the clubrooms. Then at 6pm we have the club’s Annual General Meeting with a number of reports followed by elections for the 2017/18 general committee. This will all be followed by a sit down meal in the clubhouse. Anyone who wants to stay for dinner and has yet to register, registration is possible till 8pm on Thursday through https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/

Thursday Snippets, 4 May

ASC winter season commences with Autumn Series 1 club race on Saturday 6th May at 2pm. ASC Winter associate and option of undercover boat racking available through Winter Season link on www.albertsc.org.au. A reminder that nominations for 2017/18 general committee are due by 6pm on Saturday 6th. Also registration for annual trophy presentation/AGM dinner on Saturday 13 May open till preceding Monday via online ASC Wild Apricot link.

In late April ASC’s two trailable Status boats were sold. During the past week the two blue Status’s have been taken out of the water and transported to their new home on Westernport. The Status trailer, motors and all associated equipment was sold and has also been taken away.

There is an open invitation to anyone interested to the next Wooden Boat Association’s Club Night at Albert Park Yacht Club on Wednesday 27 May 7:30 – 9:00pm. There will be a presentation from Float.a.Boat. Adrian and Rhonda Brewer operate the model boat business Float.a.Boat in Ringwood, providing a comprehensive service to model boaters. They will share their journey in reaching the position they are now in, and recount the many interesting and intriguing situations met along the way. People should feel free to bring along their own models to be admired.

Our next big ASC event is our annual Regatta on 24/25 June. Planning is already well underway. VOLUNTEERS are needed for On Water and Shore based Regatta Duty Crew – One or both days. On Water roles – RIB boat driver (with powerboat licence), RIB assistant, and Start/Finish boat crew member.
Off water we will need people in Galley, Bar, Tower (radio and results software), BBQ and boat launching and retrieval.

Thursday Snippets, 27th April

On Saturday 29th April we have a pre winter season Working Bee from 9.15am. Wear old clothes. Gardening gloves and a leaf blower if you have one. On the saturday there is no club racing due to a Rowing Regatta on Albert Park Lake. Sunday social sailing at ASC from 10am to 2pm on sunday 30th.

ASC winter season commences on Saturday 6th May, with winter club races at 2pm.. Members of other clubs are welcome with online registration for Winter Season associate and option of undercover boat racking available through Winter Season link on www.albertsc.org.au.

A reminder that on Saturday 13 May ASC we have our annual trophy presentation at 5.30, AGM at 6pm, followed by a catered dinner in ASC clubrooms. You can register to attend the dinner via the link on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/ or the list on Doug’s Bar.

Nominations for 2017/18 ASC committee are still being sought. Nominations received are on window at top of ASC front stairs. Yet to receive nominations for Commodore, Vice Commodore and Assistant Secretary. Also not yet full complement for General Committee. Nomination forms to ASC Secretary or forwarded to secretary@albertsc.org.au by 6pm on 6 May.

The ASC/APYC Lake Challenge short race series concluded on Saturday 22nd. Fifty boats were out for a good afternoon of sailing. The overall placings for class yardstick adjusted results were close and spread between divisions with 1st Ron Fergusson in an Aero from ASC, 2nd Jonathon Pulham in an Impulse from APYC, and 3rd Anthony Berger in a Sabre from ASC. A big thanks to Steve Dunn, Steve Lincoln, Lesley Scott, Ron Lackington and the rest of the ASC duty crew
