Thursday Snippets, 28 July

Our ASC Winter Series resumes on Saturday 30th July with Winter Series 3 race at 2pm, with an Information session in clubrooms at 1.15. There is also a couple of training sessions in the morning for junior Optimist sailors from 9.30. ASC is the starting club, and starts will be from our start/finish boat Aerial II following its return after anti-fouling of hulls and repairs at Sandringham YC  The weather forecast for Saturday is for moderate northerlies and 15ish degrees temperatures, so a little warmer than midweek.

The Victorian Teams Racing Championship scheduled by Albert Park Yacht Club for Sunday 31st July has been cancelled, but there will be Opti Association training from ASC for people looking for some action on the Lake on sunday afternoon.

Thursday Snippets, 21 July

Saturday 23 July forecast is for a return to colder weather, some showers and an averaging 15 knot westerly wind.  Rod Thomas has volunteered to act as an OOD for a scratch race, and social sailing. He needs one or two people to partner him in a RIB (if you can help out email him at sailing@albertsc.org.au). APYC will supply start boat and a RIB or two, and we will sail a common course. Usual 1.15 briefing for 2pm start. For the Galley Don will provide soup and rolls, otherwise BYO lunch. Junior Optimist class training programs programmed for the morning.

On Sunday 24 July the Hartley T16 Association’s annual Demonstration Day will be held in the gravel area next to Albert Sailing Club from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm. Come and have a look at a group of Hartley Trailer Sailer 16s and speak to class association members. Further details www.australianhartleyts16.org.au/Joomla/

Club racing and various junior Optimist training programs weekly from 30 July. On sunday 31 July the Victorian Teams Racing Championships are being sailed all day on Albert Park Lake, with APYC hosting.

Thursday Snippets, 14 July

Saturday 16 July there is Winter Series 3 club race at 2pm, with an Information session in clubrooms at 1.15. There is also a couple of training sessions in the morning for junior Optimist sailors from 9.30. The weather will be warmer that during the week, and will again see a return to light winds in the NE to NW sector.

For anyone coming down to the Lake on sunday 17th there is a partial park road closure from 6am to 11am for an Athletics Victoria Road Race event Road closures include Aquatic Drive behind ASC and preceding Albert Park Road.

Saturday 23 July there will be junior Optimist class training in the morning and a social sailing day, with no afternoon club race. Club racing resumes weekly from 30 July. On sunday 31 July the Victorian Teams Ra9ng Championship are being hosted by Albert Park Yacht Club. The event consists of a series of very short races on Albert Park Lake basin in front of the sailing clubs from 9.30 to 4.30. Contested by up to 8 teams in Pacer class boats provided by the organisers. An ASC team participated a couple of years ago. For a team to be entered in the 2016 event we would need 6 – 8 people, including 3 or 4 skippers. $40 per person entry fee to cover boat hire and event costs. If you are down at the Lake on sunday 31st it should be worth taking a look at the teams racing.

Thursday Snippets, 30 June 2016

The next ASC club race will be on saturday 16 June, after a short break which includes the Victorian school holiday period and Albert Park Yacht Club’s junior Wintersail coaching Regatta on Lake 8 – 10 July. On am Saturday 2 July some maintenance of outside decking on first floor of clubhouse will be undertaken (removing some planks, screwing down new ones, pressure washing of decking, and if weather suitable application of deck coating), and a couple of other small tasks. Participants who stayed on for Day 2 of the club Regatta can view a large selection of high quality photo images at http:waterlilyphotography.smugmug.com There is an opportunity to purchase a memento of the event with images professionally printed and presented in a presentation folder. Prices start at $12.00 for a 5″x7″, with canvas prints and framed prints available by special request. Thursday Snippets, 23 June

On Saturday 25 June we have Autumn Series 3 club race at 2pm, with Information session in clubrooms at 1.15. The Sabre Association will also have one of their Winter Travellers races in conjunction with our Saturday club race. We are thus looking forward to another good fleet of ASC and visitor Sabres.

No club racing Saturday 2 and 9 July, the middle and last weekends of school holidays. APYC junior Wintersail coaching Regatta on Lake 8 – 10 July. Winter Series re-commences on Saturday 16 July with Winter Series 3. On Saturday 2 July we need a few people to assist with maintenance of outside decking on first floor of clubhouse (removing some planks, screwing down some new ones, pressure washing of decking, and if weather suitable application of deck coating), and a couple of other small tasks. Also need someone to collect some 5.5 metre timber lengths from a Bunnings during coming week or so and deliver to club on or before 2 July. If you can help with work from 9.30am on 2 July or with pickup of planks speak to Don McKenzie or send him an email via sailing@albertsc.org.au

The club held another successful annual Regatta on the weekend of 18 and 19 July. With light winds all weekend two short races were sailed on Saturday and two on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to all of the club members who volunteered and helped out at the Regatta lead by Steve Dunn our Rear Commodore.

There are a range of high quality photos from Day one of the Regatta on our club Facebook. Coming soon is a special opportunity for Winter Regatta Participants. Participants who stayed on for Day 2 will have the unique opportunity to purchase a memento of the event. Photographer, Kathryn van der Mei has a large selection of high quality images available for purchase. Images will be professionally printed and presented in a presentation folder. Prices start at $12.00 for a 5″x7″ and go up from there. Canvas prints and framed prints available by special request.

Proceeds from the sale of photos will be going towards the purchase and upgrade of health and safety equipment for the Club. Stayed tuned to our Facebook page and the post-regatta edition of the Mudpuddler for further details on ordering and selecting your prints.

Thursday Snippets, 16 June

The club’s annual Regatta is on Saturday 18 June (pm) and Sunday 19 June (am and pm). Races of around 30 to 45 minutes in each session, finishing before 5pm on sunday.

All Regatta entrants need to Enter, including ASC members and Winter Associate members (no entry fee) , and Visitors from other sailing clubs. The preferred entry is online via the Entry link on the club website and is open until 9pm on Friday 17 June. Late entries (less preferred) up until 12.15 on saturday or on sunday morning. You can sail one, but hopefully both days of the Regatta.

The 7 race ASC Winter Series resumes on Saturday 25 June with Winter Series 2 race at 2pm. The Winter Series continues on 16 and 30 July, 6, 13 and 20 August.

Thursday Snippets, 9 June

On the Queens Birthday weekend there are no programmed events or activities at Albert Sailing Club. On the following weekend, 18 and 19 June we have our two day annual regatta for junior, youth, family and adult monohull dinghy classes on Albert Park Lake. This is a short race format Regatta. The much preferred regatta Entry is via the Regatta link on www.albertsc.org.au, till late on wednesday 15th. Late entries accepted at ASC clubhouse up until 45 minutes before Information Session for each of the three half day sessions.

On the Queens Birthday weekend there are Sailing Regattas at Sorrento SCBC, and Latrobe Valley Yacht Club in Gippsland, and Australian Women’s keelboat Regatta at Royal Melbourne YS at St Kilda. Details for these regattas are on the websites for these clubs.

The next ASC general committee meeting is on Tuesday 14th June in our ASC clubrooms from 7.30.

Thursday Snippets, 2 June

Albert Sailing Club’s 7 race Winter Series starts on Saturday 4th. Information session at 1.15 for 2pm starts. Last week of SSCBC junior training am – we hope to see more of the Sorrento Optis and Minnow sailing in ASC club races after the holiday long weekend. Note : no club events on the Queens Birthday long weekend 11 to 13 June. Sauna Sail Regatta at Hazelwood Pondage on long weekend, with at least a couple of ASC Impulses likely to participate.

The annual Albert Sailing Club Regatta is on 18 and 19 June (pm on Saturday, am and pm on sunday). Dinghy class sailors from ASC and other Victorian (and interstate) club have been invited to sail in this popular short race format event. Regatta details and online entry on www.albertsc.org.au. We would like to see a good fleet of ASC boats in the Regatta, if possible both days. Also a few more volunteers required. Mainly for on-water roles, but also lunchtime galley, after race BBQ, and a Regatta photographer for one or both days, including the Presentations on sunday afternoon after racing. Email sailing@albertsc.org.au if you can assist and indicate one or both days.

Thursday Snippets, 26 May

This weekend ASC has Autumn Series 4 race on Saturday 28th at 2pm, with SSCBC junior training am, and on sunday social sailing 10am to 2pm (public welcome). Seven race winter series commences on Saturday 4 June.

In June the annual Albert Sailing Club Regatta is on 18 and 19 June. Dinghy class sailors from ASC and other Victorian (and interstate) club welcome to sail in this popular short race format event. Volunteers required one or both days. Regatta details and online entry on www.albertsc.org.au.

At the AGM and first general committee meeting the 2016/17 General Committee was confirmed as : John Whelan (Acting Commodore first six months till November) ; Steve Dunn (Rear Commodore, Sailing) ; Jack Woods (Secretary) ; David Bock (Treasure) ; Bill Avallone (Assistant Secretary) ; Ron Fergusson (Club Captain), and 7 committee members. Thursday Snippets, 12 May

For the start of our Autumn series on 7th May it was great to see a fleet of 14 juniors from Sorrento and Albert out in Optimist class boats in the morning, with a few staying on to sail in our Autumn 1 club race. We look forward to the numbers of juniors increasing as the winter season progresses, and of course youth and adults from Albert and visiting clubs.

On Saturday 14th May, we have Autumn Series 2 club race iat 2pm, with Information session in clubrooms at 1.15. In the morning there is ASC ‘green fleet’ and Sorrento SCBC training groups from 10am.

After sailing on 14th we have a number of annual club activities to which all ASC members and the extended Albert family are invited. ASC’s Annual Trophy Presentation for the 2015/16 season is at 5.30. This is followed by the club’s Annual General Meeting at 6pm, with Commodore and Treasurer Reports and election of the 2016/17 general committee the main agenda items. Following the AGM there is a visit to nearby Cafe Rosco’s at 407d St Kilda Road (near corner with Toorak Road). Register intention to come to the Cafe on the sheet on Doug’s Bar in ASC clubrooms or email sailing@albertsc.org.au. $20 per head payable on the night for garlic/herb pizza bread starter, a pizza/pasta meal with drinks (wine and soft drinks) and tea/coffee. The pizza/pasta menu is on the front page of ASC website.
Option to pay extra for a different main meal, dessert, or other drinks.

Autumn Series and morning junior activities continue on Saturday 21st. Also the sunday afternoon Optimist class training program continues weekly.
