Saturday 21st Commodore Series 3 Club Race at 12.30, with club training boats available for hire by club members from 10am.
Upcoming we have a Junior school holiday program 23rd to 25th, with club open 9.30 to 4pm each day On Tuesday 24th the club will be open for “twilight sailing” from around 4pm to 8/8.30. BBQ on club decking early evening – (bring a salad if you can), and a movie for juniors. All ASC Members, their families and Visitors are invited for a casual get together. On Australia Day, thursday 26 January there will be women and men Cadel Evans cycling events around Albert Park Reserve. No parking or access in most areas of the Lake Reserve all day, including around Sailing Clubs and Lakeside Stadium. Park in Albert Road or ride to Club if you want to use club facilities on Australia Day. On the 28/29 Jan weekend there is no club sailing on the saturday, and social sailing on sunday with the club open 10am to at least 3pm. Elsewhere on 28/29 January is the major Festival of Sails Regatta at Geelong, Yarrawonga Australia Day Regatta, ad a wooden sailing dinghies event at Inverloch.

February 4 and 5 weekend – On Saturday 4th Annual Top of the Bay Regatta at Elwood Sailing club, with 60 – 100 boats expected depending on conditions. No ASC club racing, but highly likely to be some sailingon Albert Park Lake. Sunday 5th the ASC February Learn to Sail program of 8 sessions over 4 weekends commences, with club open all day. Also on 3 February the Women & Girls Group from Australian Sailing will be at ASC from around 5.30 for a sail, food and drinks, with ASC women & Girls invited and most welcome. ASC’s summer club racing series 1 on 11 February.

Thursday Snippets, 12 January

Next ASC club sailing days on Saturdays 14, and 21st January with casual sailing in the morning and club races from 2.30. Club training boats available for use by members. Prospects are for milder and more comfortable sailing conditions than those of our first sailing day in 2017. There may be a visit to Rosco’s local pizza restaurant after sailing and drinks on Saturday 14th. Check with OOD Cindy Tilbrook at or before the 1.45 information session for the Saturday afternoon race.

There is an ASC junior school holiday program on Albert Park Lake from 23 to 25 January, There are a few places for juniors with at least some sailing experience, in age range 8 to 15 years of age, with need to Register as soon as possible. A brief report with a couple of photos of ASC juniors at the Opti nationals has been placed on our club Facebook. Full results are on https://optimist.org.au/

Thursday Snippets, 5 January

Happy New Year. Albert Sailing Club commences 2017 with club sailing days on Saturdays 7, 14, and 21st January with casual sailing in the morning and club races from 2.30. There is a junior school holiday program from 23 to 25 January, and 8 session Learn to Sail program across February from Sunday 5 February. Thursday Snippets, 24 November

ASC will be open all weekend from 9.30 on 26/27 November. Saturday Spring Series 7 club race at 2.30, and Learn to Sail and green fleet groups am and pm. The junior Open Bic class VIC Super Cup is being hosted by ASC am and pm Saturday and Sunday. Over 20 skiff style Open Bic’s have entered for a mix of fun events and short races. On sunday we also have our club monthly social sailing day from 10am to 4pm. All members and friends most welcome to sail or come down to enjoy the clubhouse facilities and watch the on water action both days.

We need a volunteer who lives locally to come down to ASC Friday evening for 10 minutes to put out bollards to reserve car park spaces behind the club for saturday. Also we have need for a few volunteers to help on-water and possibly on shore for sunday Open Bic event and ASC social sailing Email Don on sailing@albertsc.org.au if you can assist with bollards or Open Bic event.

The second phase of the development of the State Government’s Master Plan for Albert Park Reserve is currently in progress. We have some members attending a consultation workshop on Tuesday 29 November. You can learn more about the project and provide your views via a survey on the website http://www.albertparkmasterplan.com.au/

Thursday Snippets, 17 November

On Saturday 19 November Spring Series 6 club race at 2.30pm. In the morning there is Spring Learn to Sail program and ‘green fleet’ training program in Laser 4.7’s and Optimists. Green fleet Ozi Opti program from 1pm. Sunday 20th Learn to Sail program session with club open from late morning to 4pm. Note that roads in Albert Park Reserve, including those leading to Albert Sailing Club will be closed on Sunday until 11am for the City 2 Sea Fun Rum. Anyone arriving before 11am needs to park in Albert Road and walk through to ASC.

Upcoming. ASC will be open all weekend on 26/27 November with club race on Saturday, monthly social sailing day on sunday, and a Regatta for the junior Open Bic class across the weekend. We also need someone to come down to ASC Friday evening for 10 minutes to put out parking bollards. If you can help out with bollards or for half or whole day on the sunday speak to Don McKenzie or send him an email via sailing@albertsc.org.au.

Thursday Snippets, 3 November

A busy weekend on 5 and 6 November with Spring Series 4 on Saturday afternoon and the 8 session Spring Learn to Sail starting on Sunday. There will be a schools Athletics event at Lakeside stadium all day on saturday 5th. We need someone to place bollards out after 7pm on Friday 4th  to mark 8 reserved car spaces for members without a Parks Victoria annual car parking pass who arrive late morning/early afternoon on saturday. It is an easy ten minute task, ideally suited to someone who lives within say 15 minutes of the club or someone visiting the area on Friday night. If you can help out send an email via sailing@albertsc.org.au to Don or give him a call on Thursday. Parking in the gravel areas next to the club will be an option on Saturday for people with an annual Parks Victoria Aquatic Club parking pass.

On Tuesday 8th November we have the November ASC committee meeting in our clubrooms from 7.30pm. All members welcome.

Thursday Snippets, 27 October

Saturday 29th October we have a club trophy race from 2.30pm. It should be a good day for sailing with the forecast for 24 degrees and gentle 5 to 10 knot winds. This is in stark contrast to the wild winds of the previous two Saturdays. If anyone wants to skipper or crew on a club Pacer send an email to sailing@albertsc.org.au. Other club training boats including junior Ozi Opti, Laser and Sabre boats available for hire.

On Wednesday 2nd November there is a non-competitive Midweek Sailing afternoon at Albert Sailing Club. Club members and visitors welcome. A few experienced club members will be sailing and will have the club open from 12.30 to 4pm. Option to bring your lunch to eat before sailing. This is part of a trial of casual midweek sailing on the first Wednesday of each month, with the next on 7 December. (Check Weather Forecast on day of Midweek sailing. Club will not open if there is a strong wind or gale warning for Port Phillip).

The 8 session Spring Learn to Sail course at ASC commences on sunday 6 November. Further information is on our club website, with expressions of interest for this or the February course being captured on the listing on the noticeboard in the club foyer.

The club’s Spring Series resumes on Saturday 5th November, with Spring Series 4. There will be a schools Athletics event at Lakeside stadium all day on the 5th. Thursday Snippets, 20 October

On weekend of 22/23 October ASC has a Spring Series club race at 2.30 on saturday and Discover Sailing Public Open Day on sunday 10am to 3pm. The annual Discover sailing day is for both club members in their own boat or a club training boat and for visitors of all ages interested in trying dinghy sailing. Pre-registration and further information is on www.albertsc.org.au.

Also on saturday 22nd, Albert Park ‘green fleet’ sailing from 1pm for juniors who have completed a Learn to Sail or Tackers 3 program. ASC Status boat cleaning from 10.

On the “Cup Day” weekend Albert Sailing Club has a club trophy race on Saturday afternoon. We have a number members travelling to country regattas, with Sail Country at Albury and an Impulse Travellers Race at Stawell

Thursday Snippets, 13 October

Spring Series 2 club race on Saturday 15 October at 2.30. There will be some work on club Status boats and Aerial 2 anchoring from mid Saturday morning, with helping hands welcome. Also Albert Park junior ‘green fleet’ program from 1pm. With APS athletics at Lakeside stadium we are purchasing 8 or so parking spots inside bollards behind ASC (pay with cash in bowl on galley servery). Likely to have provision for parking for those with annual parking permits on gravel areas next to club – look for ASC sandwich boards.

On Sunday 16 October roads in Albert Park Reserve will be closed until 10am for Melbourne Marathon events. The Victorian Trailable Yachts Association have a Discover Sailing Day at Melbourne City Marina, Docklands,

On 22/23 October, ASC has a club race on Saturday and our annual Discover Sailing Public Open Day on sunday 23rd 10am – 3pm. Volunteers to assist should place their name on list at top of ASC clubrooms stairs or send an email to sailing@albertsc.org.au.

Thursday Snippets, 6 October

Our Spring sailing season commences on Saturday 8 October with Spring Series 1 club race at 2.30. ASC members and visitors have also been invited to the Albert Yacht Club season opening sailpast at 2.15 with instructions to be provided at our ASC information session at 1.45. There will be some work on club Status boats late Saturday morning, with helping hands always welcome. Also an Albert Park  ‘green fleet’ program which will run each week from early to mid Saturday afternoons commences.

Spring Series 2 club race on Saturday 15 October. There will be APS Athletics event at Lakeside stadium all day on the 15th. An ASC committee member will contact Parks Victoria re: parking arrangements for this day with details to be provided in next week’s Snippets. We plan to purchase some spaces at the back of ASC, and need someone to place bollards out to mark the spaces in period after 7pm on Friday 14th. On 22/23 October, ASC has a big weekend with club race on Saturday and our annual Discover Sailing Public Open Day on sunday 23 October 10am – 3pm (the date of the national Yachting Australia DDay). Members and Snippets contacts are asked to publicise with friends, relatives, and work colleagues with details and Registration on www.albertsc.org.au. We also need volunteers to assist on an off the water on the day. You can volunteer for morning session (9am to 12.30) or afternoon (12 to 4pm) or both as some of us will be doing. A volunteer list is being placed on the upstairs ASC noticeboard or send an email to sailing@albertsc.org.au. We are also looking for a musician or two for lunchtime in conjunction with BBQ on decking. A busker or someone who would sing/play say guitar for a small fee over period say 12 noon to 1.30pm. If you know of an option send an email to Rod via sailing@albertsc.org.au or speak to me on Saturday.

You may be interested in acoustic music shows which are being held at the Albert Park Port lounge at Albert Park Yacht Club on a number of Friday nights each month. On Friday 14 October Eric Bogle, one of Australia’s best folk balladers, will be performing. There are a few ASC current and past members planning to attend.
