Thursday Snippets, 20 July

The weather is warming up, and hopefully winds will also improve. Winter Series 7 club race on Saturday 22nd August with 1.15 Information Session for 2pm start. There are junior training sessions with Sorrento junior Opti/Minnow group and Minnow Association in the morning.

Upcoming on Saturday 5 September we have heat 3 of Women & Girls Lake Challenge being sailed from Albert Sailing Club , with a club Trophy Race for the guys. The W&G event is for boats with a female helmsperson, It is being promoted through Yachting Victoria’s Women’s Girls group, so we are looking to have a good fleet with ASC and visiting skippers. The next Mudpuddler Newsletter is being compiled at the end of the month. The Editor needs articles on club people and activities, photos, sailing adventures, etc. by Sunday 30th August. Send items to mudpuddler@albertsc.org.au

We also need a person or person(s) to continue winter season BBQ’s on saturdays (3.30 to 5pm) for another 2 or 3 weeks, with highest priority for 5 September W&G event. Speak to our secretary Bill Avallone or Rod Thomas if you can help on one or more.

Thursday Snippets, 13 August

Race 6 of our 7 race Winter Series is on Saturday 15th August with 1.15 Information Session for 2pm start. Gary Todd, just back from a break in Europe visiting his son, is the Race Officer/OOD. There is another junior training session with Sorrento SCBC junior Opti/Minnow group in the morning.

Finally, we need a person or person(s) to handle our winter season club BBQ’s 3.30 to 5pm (ish) on saturdays over the next few weeks. Cindy Tilbrook has been cooking on the BBQ most weeks (thanks Cindy) but is not available for the coming weeks. We would like to continue BBQ’s for a few more weeks, with highest priority for 5 September W&G event. Speak to our secretary Bill Avallone or Rod Thomas if you can help on one or more Saturdays.

Thursday Snippets, 6 August

Winter Series club race on saturday 8th August with 1.15 Information Session for 2pm start. Also another Aero’s training session and Sorrento SCBC junior Opti/Minnow group session in morning. A number of club committee members will be away for some or all of the day including Don, Rod and Steve, with Rod and Steve at annual Yachting Victoria conference at Brighton.

Congratulations to Beau and Nikki on the arrival of their first child Brax Fleming. Was Beau showing signs of adjustment to parenthood in last saturday’s race with a capsize roll tacking on the first leg of the Laser race in two knots of wind ? Beau has suggested to his father Mark that it will be his responsibility to teach Brax to sail, as he did for Beau.

The August ASC committee meeting is on Tuesday 11th at 7.30pm in our clubrooms.

Thursday Snippets, 29 July

On saturday 1 August we have Winter Series club race with 1.15 Information Session for 2pm start. Visitors most welcome to come down and sail or make enquiries about our future training and sailing activities. There will be a training session open to alll in a club training boat or your own boat with Don McKenzie from 10am. Also another Aero’s training session, a Minnow Association training session and a Sorrento SCBC junior Opti/Minnow group session (TBC).

The Extraordinary General Meeting on Saturday 25 July passed the updated club Rules, with one amendment to the clause on signatories for club bank account.

The Laser Class Association of Victoria is offering to conduct an “Activate” Rigging and Training day in Spring for interested Victorian dinghy clubs. Such a day could be organised for ASC Laser and Impulse sailors at all levels of experience on Albert Park Lake if there is sufficient interest. Expressions of Interest are being sought. Speak to our Rear Commodore Steve Dunn or email him on rearcommodore@albertsc.org.au if you would be interested.
