Thursday Snippets, 22 January

Some good rains this week have increased the water level in Albert Park Lake, and we look forward to further rains to improve conditions for sailing.
On the Australia Day long weekend no programmed sailing at the Lake.
A busy weekend at ASC on the following 1/2 February weekend. On Saturday 1st February, ASC/APYC Summer Season series resumes with club race from 2.30. Also commencement of the junior Term 1 Green fleet program 1.30 to 4pm which is being conducted on the 5 saturdays in February. A Better Sailing program has been scheduled for mornings of sunday 2nd and Saturday 8th February. The Better Sailing program is directed at people who have completed a Learn to Sail program or some ‘green fleet’ sailing and want to improve their sailing skills. Details and Registration link for the junior Green Fleet and Better Sailing programs can be found on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/ The Summer Learn to Sail scheduled to commence on sunday 2nd February has been postponed to dates in Autumn to be confirmed.
On Saturday 8th February, Top of the Bay Interclub Challenge at Altona YC. A good chance to sail on the bay. Details and Registration Form on www.albertsc.org.au. We also need 3 or so to volunteer to go out on Port Phillip for the start boat or patrol boat on the Saturday afternoon. Contact our Rear Commodore Steve Dunn (rearcommodore@albertsc.org.au) with completed entry Registration Forms and indications of availability as a volunteer.

Other sailing events on the Australia Day long weekend 25/26/27 January.
* Inverloch Classic Wooden Dinghy Regatta at the South Gippsland Yacht Club at Inverloch with the main day on sunday.
*McCrae annual regatta for sailing dinghy classes on the Mornington Peninsula with at least a couple of ASC Impulses entered.
* Festival of Sails at Geelong. Mainly keel boat regatta with onshore festival activities.
* Australian BloKart Championships at Casey Fields, Cranbourne. See the action of land sailing buggies. Say hi to ASC’s ex-Commodore, Mick Ralph who is down from Queensland for the event.

The next quarterly club Mudpuddler Newsletter is being compiled in February. The editor needs your articles, photos, puzzles and other items of interest in the next couple of weeks.
