Thursday Snippets, 22 July

     Unfortunately, the Victorian lockdown was extended and no Community Sport on weekend of 24/25 July. We look forward to easing of restrictions soon to allow for resumption of our club winter season on Saturdays and junior VIODA Optimist Class coaching on Sundays.
     There is a big sailing program at the Tokyo Olympics which kicks off this week. Sailing events take place across eleven days from Sunday 25 July to Wednesday 4 August at the Enoshima Yacht Harbour south of Tokyo. This year the sailing events can be viewed live in Australia on Smart TV, tablet or mobile phone each afternoon via the Olympics Sailing channel on the 7+ app.
     At the Tokyo Olympics There are events for 10 sailing classes. With one qualified entry allowed per country in each event, Australia has 13 athletes competing across the 7 one and two person dinghy classes and the foiling catamaran class. Sailing commences on Sunday 25 July at 12.05pm with Race 1 for the Women’s Laser Radial class, followed by Race 1 for the Men’s Laser class. Australia is going for the three-peat in the Men’s Laser class with Tom Slingsby gold meddalist in London in 2012 and Tom Burton gold medalist in Rio in 2016.
Both Laser classes are scheduled to sail 9 races across the week, with Medal race finals on Sunday 1st August.
