Saturday 26th June there is another club Winter Season sailing day with club open from 10.30, and afternoon race at 2pm. Sunday ASC social sailing day with VIODA Optimist Winter training 1 – 4pm. “Top of the Lake” regatta cancelled due to uncertainty with COVID restrictions
Government COVID restrictions similar to last week with numbers of people per indoors area based on 1 per 4 square metres. QR codes or form signed on entry to club and masks to be worn indoors. Outdoors public gathering groups can now be up to 50, as against up to 20 last week. Full ASC guidelines on www.albertsc.org.au.

Saturday 17th July a one day “Pop Up” ASC regatta is being planned, with short course races from 1.30. Mark the date in your diary. Details to be finalised and posted on ASC Facebook and sent to class associatons and clubs early last week of June.

Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd July Victorian Laser Association Coaching Program – Days 1 and 2 of 4 Day program at Albert Sailing Club. Details in June 10 Post on viclaser Facebook

Friday 9th – 11th July Albert Park Yacht Club Wintersail Junior and Youth program on the Lake. Current ASC registrations for a Laser 4.7, two International Optimists, and a club RS Zest 1 up.

Thursday Snippets, 17 June

On saturday 19th June we will have a club sailing day with club race at 2pm, and club open from 10.30.
The club’s “Top of the Lake” regatta scheduled for saturday 26th and sunday 27th June has been cancelled due to uncertainty with COVID restrictions in particular those effecting the numbers who would be able to use our clubrooms and facilities. A winter series club race will be sailed on saturday 26th June, we need 4 or 5 people to assist Cindy with duty on the day. Email commdore@albertsc.org.au if you can assist.
As a partial makeup an Invitation Day at ASC for visitors from class associations and other clubs is to being scheduled for saturday 17 July.

COVID Restrictions Overview

The government has eased some of the COVID restrictions to apply from midnight on 17 June. Those changes with the biggest impact on ASC operations are :
* All Victorians now free to move within Victoria.
* public gatherings outdoors limited to groups of 20, with masks not required outdoors except where can’t distance 1.5 metres.
* Community sport (which includes sailing) can resume for training and competition.
* Indoors facilities (including eateries) one person per 4 square metres with groups up to 10 people – for ASC up to 40 in upstairs clubrooms, changerooms max. of 8 people M & W.
The government has indicated they may ease restrictions further late next week if COVID cases remain low.

Our ASC COVID Safe guidelines have been updated and can be viewed on our club website www.albertsc.org.au. Use of QR codes for each person entering clubrooms is important, with paper form in foyer where you have no smartphone. For sailing clubs come dressed for sailing and minimise use of changerooms. Personal hygiene and wiping down of shared surfaces also important.

Thursday Snippets, 10 June

There has been an easing of some Goverment COVID restrictions for Greater  Melbourne from midnight on Thursday 10th of June, with restrictions still tight around community sport.  Given the restrictions and our club program what does this mean for sailing on Albert Park Lake and Albert Sailing Club?

  * You can go sailing on Albert Park Lake if you live within 25 kms of the club. 
*   There are no organised activities at Albert Sailing Club on the long weekend or during the coming week. The exception is the SEDA educational group midweek.

* There are no duty personnel assigned over the long weekend to provide access to the boatyard.
* There will be a few people down 10.30 to 11ish on saturday for anyone without a club  key who wants to move their boat out of the yard. No-one rostered to be there if take boat out and want to return it.
* Club members with a club key can access the club through the front doors to gain access to their boat in the  boatyard. If you move your boat from the boatyard lock all gates behind you. 
* Each person entering the club foyer and/or boatyard is required to sign in using the club QR code on the foyer window or via the manual register 
*  You may do maintenance or repairs on your boat in the boatyard if you have a club key.
*  The upstairs clubrooms and changerooms need to remain closed. Club toilets are accessible.
 
*  Public gatherings of up to 10 people outdoors, including in boat rigging areas, with social distancing of 1.5 metres between people.
*  Masks to be worn at all times, unless eating or drinking or strenuous exercise
*  Wash hands and use hand sanitiser. Wipe down shared surfaces touched such as door handles, locks, and wash basin taps. 
*  If you do intend to sail, please change at home.

Thursday Snippets, 3 June

In accordance with Victorian Government COVID19 restrictions announced on 2nd June the cancellation of activities at Albert Sailing Club and closure of clubrooms and boatyard continues for a further 7 day period until 12 midnight on 11th June. For those living within 10 kilometres of the Lake who have their boat stored at home the following extract from https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/sport-and-exercise may provide some joy “Recreational fishing and boating are permitted as long as it doesn’t require use of a facility (the opening of a closed jetty or pier) and within 5km of your home for up to 2 hours once per day, and with members of your household or 1 other person.”
The boundary will now be 10 kilometres following the Government announcements of 2 June.
Access to club facilities including the boatyard continues to be not permitted until restrictions on this are changed. The only exception is for essential club maintenance and from 4 June, the midweek use of ASC clubrooms by SEDA teachers and students who can return to face to face classes for Year 11 and 12 education groups.

* No club activities are programmed for the 12 – 14 June long weekend.
* The ASC sailing program from saturday 19 June will depend upon Government COVID restrictions and requirements, and the availability of duty crew and other key club volunteers. Decisions on this will be communicated after due consideration of eased restrictions.
* Albert Sailing Club Top of the Lake Regatta, is scheduled for saturday 26th and sunday 27th June. A decision on whether the Regatta proceeds or not will be made and communicated out in the week commencing 12 June.
* The June ASC committee meeting will be held as a Zoom meeting at 7.30 on Thursday 10th. Non-committee members are welcome to join the meeting. To do so email Cindy for details via commodore@albertsc.org.au.

Thursday Snippets, 27 May

In accordance with Victorian Government COVID19 restrictions announced on 27th May all activities at Albert Sailing Club are cancelled and clubrooms and boatyard closed for 7 day period from 12 midnight on 27th, unless an earlier change to restrictions is announced. An update will be provided on our club Facebook and in weekly Thursday Snippets in week commencing 31 May when Government changes in restrictions are announced.

Thursday Snippets, 20 May

Forecast for sailing on 22/23 May weekend looks promising, with 19 degrees and 5 to 10 knot winds.
On saturday the club is open from 10am with club race at 2pm. Cindy’s BBQ after sailing. On sunday week 3 of VIODA Optimist winter coaching at ASC from 1 – 4pm.

Albert Sailing Club’s annual short course Regatta, this year “Top of the Lake” Regatta, on saturday 26th and sunday 27th June. Saturday races from 1.15. Sunday from 10.30, with presentations mid afternoon. Online Registration and Notice of Race details just released on https://albertsc.org.au/index.php/racing/2021-sail-topoflake-regatta. Regatta numbers capped at 80 entries, so enter early and share with others.

29/30 May weekend.
     Saturday morning, May’s monthly Women’s race two up in club RS Zest training boats. For women and girls at all levels of experience.
10.00 for Morning Tea, Briefing, skipper/crew allocations and rigging of boats for 11am start.
     Sunday 30th 10.30 to 3pm monthly Social sailing day for club members and guests in own boat or club training boat. Includes invite for VIODA families to sail a club RS Zest individually or in pairs.
We need some members to assist for morning session and/or afternoon session.

Thursday Snippets, 13 May 2021

     Sailing on both days of 15/16 May weekend with cool wintry weather predicted both days. Winter season club race at 2pm on saturday, with information session at 1.15 and club open by 10.30am. VIODA Optimist winter coaching program continues 1 to 4pm on sunday.
     Perpetual trophies for 2020 were presented at ASC clubrooms on saturday 8th. The Bill Larkins Overall Club Champion trophy was presented to Paul Farrell by Rob Larkins who sailed at ASC as a junior in Sabots and then in his youth in a Moth. (Paul, Rob and Cindy pictured) Rob’s father was a Commodore of ASC in the 1960’s and played as significant role in the building of the original clubrooms.
     The presentations were followed by the club’s Annual General Meeting. AGM reports can be found on the AGM tab under The Club on www.albertsc.org.au. Cindy Tilbrook was elected for her third term as Commodore and all nominees were duly elected to the 2021/22 club committee. We look forward to a full club year ahead.

Thursday Snippets, 6 May

A full weekend on 8 and 9 May. with club sailing day and AGM on saturday 8th and on sunday afternoon the first week of the Victorian Optimist Association winter training program for 30+ junior sailors being hosted at ASC.
On saturday the club will be open from 10am, with a Winter Season club race in class divisions at 2pm. At 5pm the club’s Annual General Meeting will be held to hear reports and elect the 21/22 General Committee. Also presentation of 2020 ASC perpetual trophies in the afternoon.
Key AGM details including attendance options and after meeting informal meal are
* All members are encouraged to attend the AGM to be held in person at 5pm (ASC Clubrooms, 1 Aquatic Drive, South Melbourne). There are alternative online/telephone options, with an email to secretary@albertsc.org.au in advance if using an option.
* All documents for the meeting, including the Minutes of the 2020 Annual General Meeting, the report of the Committee, the Financial Statements and Treasurer’s report can be found on the Albert Sailing Club website under the first menu item The Club / Annual General Meeting. Also details on how to join in by Zoom or phone.
* An informal dinner is proposed to be held after the meeting for those who can stay on. Please notify the secretary (secretary@albertsc.org.au) if you plan to stay for the informal dinner.

Thursday Snippets, 29 April

The Club’s Winter Season commences with a club sailing day on saturday 1st May. The club will be open from 10am. The first race of the Winter Series has division starts from 2pm, with Information Session at 1.15. The midweek forecast for saturday sounds good with predicted temperatures in the low 20’s with a light to moderate northerly. Also in the morning there will be an ASC search crew out in the Northern Lake basin trying to locate the missing mooring for our Aerial II Start/Finish boat.

Thursday Snippets, 22 April


On saturday 24th April we have our Autumn Working Bee from 9.30 till finished, hopefully early afternoon. Plenty of jobs, with a list at the top of the clubrooms stairs. This is a day for all members to show support in maintenance of our club and equipment.There is a Rowing Regatta programmed on the Lake till early afternoon. No club racing but potentially opportunity for casual sailing after working bee finishes.
