On Saturday 22nd April we have week 2 of the Interclub event for sailors from Albert Sailing Club and Albert Park Yacht Club. Visitors from other clubs welcome. Short course format races from 2pm. APYC is the host club for race management and will provide BBQ and drinks for ASC and APYC members in their clubrooms/decking from around 4.30. We are looking for a good ASC rollup for the challenge race and at the informal post race socialising.

The annual Verna Templeton event for ASC junior sailors is on saturday 22nd April. Juniors at all levels of experience are invited to sign on in the clubrooms at 9.30, rig boats and then be ready for briefing at 10am. Inexperienced juniors will be teamed with more experienced junior sailors in a series of not too serious short races in club Pacers.

On Saturday 29th April we have a pre winter season Working Bee from 9.15am. Wear old clothes. Gardening gloves and a leaf blower if you have one. On the saturday afternoon there is no club racing due to a Rowing Regatta on Albert Park Lake. There is an option of a visit to Williamstown SC for their club race for anyone interested. Sunday social sailing at ASC from 10am to 2pm on sunday 30th.

On Saturday 13 May ASC will be holding our annual trophy presentation for 2016/17 season at 5.30, our AGM at 6pm, followed by an evening catered dinner for club members and their families. To encourage people to stay on for dinner the cost will be kept low – less than a cost of a ‘seniors’ counter meal with a reduced rate for children. An email with details will be out in the coming week. You can enter your name to attend on the list on Doug’s Bar or through an online link.

Thursday Snippets, 6 April

On Saturday 8th April we have an interclub race for sailors from Albert Sailing Club and Albert Park Yacht Club, with visitors from other clubs welcome. Short course format, with races from 2pm. ASC is the host club providing race management from our Aerial II start/finish boat. Eats and drinks for ASC and APYC members in ASC clubrooms and on decking after sailing. Bring a salad to share if you can.

We had another successful 3 day junior holiday program over the last week, with 12 juniors between 8 and 13 years of age involved in ideal Autumn weather. Some photos have been placed on our Albert Sailing Club Facebook. The next ASC junior activity is our annual Verna Templeton series for junior sailors on saturday 22nd April. The last meeting for the 2016-17 ASC general committee is on Tuesday 11th April. We need members to come forward and nominate for the 2017-18 general committee which is to be formed at our AGM on 13 May. Speak to a current committee member if you need more information or jut fill in the Nomination form and hand in or forward to Jack Woods our current ASC secretary.

No activities at ASC over the Easter period. Have a good Easter, be it on the water, away camping or in other accommodation, or whatever.

Thursday Snippets, 30 March

Sailing returns to the Lake after the F1 Grand Prix weekend. Summer Series 6 club race at 2.30 on Saturday 1st April, with Better Sailing group session in the morning from 10am. The club training boats are available for use and hire by members.
The RS Aero national championships and Skiff Regatta is being sailed at Black Rock Yacht Club on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd. There will be some fast sailing from a range of skiff classes if the winds get up. The largest fleet is in the RS Aero class with 25 entries, and Ron Fergusson from ASC is a strong chance for a good placing – go Ron !
Monday 4th to Wednesday 6th, ASC is conducting another junior school holiday program. Mainly green fleet level juniors in club Ozi Optis this time. Our open class juniors will be sailing in the Victorian Youth Championships coaching program at Royal Brighton YC. Adult members and friends are welcome to come down to ASC to lend a hand, go for a sail or watch the juniors learning and having fun. There will be a sausage sizzle lunch on Wednesday for the juniors, their parents and any ASC members who are down at the Lake.
On 8 April ASC is hosting week 1 of the two week Lake Challenge series for sailors from ASC , APYC and visitors. Short course format, with races from 2pm. Prizes for overall placegetters and class winners. Eats and drinks in ASC clubrooms after sailing.

Thursday Snippets, 16 March

Summer Series 5 club race at 2.30 on saturday 18th, with Better Sailing group session at 10am and final Term 1 junior green fleet session at 1pm. Late morning there will be final compilation of the club’s Autumn Mudpuddler newsletters in the ASC club rooms for posting of Newsletters next week. The online version is available on the home page of www.albersc.org.au.

Closing date for expressions of interest in AFL football tipping comp is Friday 17th via email to naomiburmika@gmail.com. Expressions of interest in the Easter junior school holiday program on 3 to 5 April close on Monday 20 March via the link on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/

On the March long weekend the Optimist State titles were sailed at Geelong with 90 or so entries. The ASC juniors who participated had some good results. Congratulations and well done to Finn McMahon who was the winner of the Victorian Optimist State championship. For the Regatta he tied on equal points with the current Australian Champion from NSW but finished Regatta second on a count back. As first Victorian he won the Victorian title. In the Intermediate division Jack Italia finished second overall, only one point behind the winner. In the Green fleet, Anna Robinson who joined ASC in November for our saturday green fleet program finished third. The Laser state titles are on the weekend of 18/19 March at Royal Brighton Yacht Club.

A reminder that the Albert Park Lake Reserve will be closed for the F1 Grand Prix from 12.01am Monday 20 March to 12.01 on Tuesday 28 March.
ASC next club sailing is on Saturday 1 April.

Thursday Snippets, 9 March

On the March long weekend some members will be down at ASC on Saturday 11th from 10am to 1pm for some social sailing. Club training boats available for members, all subject to reasonable weather and committee member approval. No club racing on long weekend, but State titles for junior Optimist class at Geelong and Impulses at McCrae.

Next ASC programmed date is Saturday 18th March with training groups am and pm, and club race t 2.30. The Albert Park Lake Reserve will then be closed from midnight Sunday 19th March to Monday 27th March for the Formula Grand Prix with no public access.

The ASC March committee meeting is at 7.30 on Tuesday 14th. The close date for the March Mudpuddler Newsletter is Sunday 12th. Send contributions to mudpuddler@albertsc.org.au.

ASC open on Saturday 4th March with Better Sailing group from 10am, club Summer Series Race at 2.30, and junior green fleet sailing from 1pm. One other sailing date programmed in March, with Summer Series, Better Sailing and green fleet sessions on 18 March. No club sailing on the March 11 – 13 Long weekend, and the Albert Park Reserve locked up from 20 to 26 March for the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Articles and items of interest are being sought for the next ASC Mudpuddler newsletter, which will be compiled early to mid March. Send your items to mudpuddler@abertsc.org.au.

Most classes have their State titles at this time of the year. Sabres and Open Bic’s were on the last two weekends in February. Impulse, Laser and junior Optimist classes across the first 3 weeks of March. ASC has representation in all of these and we wish good sailing upon our sailors in these and other events at this busy time of the year. Elsewhere there is Some spectacular 18 footers sailing on the internet this week with the JJ Giltinan world championship regatta on Sydney Harbour being streamed on http://www.18footers.com.au/sailing/tv/2016-17.

Thursday Snippets, 23 February

Full weekend of sailing at Albert Sailing Club on weekend of 25th and 26th. On Saturday there is Learn to Sail and Better Sailing training groups in the morning followed by Summer Series club race at 2.30. Sunday is our monthly social sailing day. Club open from 10am to 4pm, with sailing in your own boat or for members in our club training boats. BBQ at lunchtime , with sausage sizzle or BYO. Friends and visitors most welcome. to sail or relax on the club balcony or the Lake foreshore. Any more experienced members who could help, particularly in morning or over lunchtime period would be appreciated.

There is a visit by the Victorian Laser Association on Sunday 26th. There will be a slalom training event in Laser Radial boats provided by VLA members. Meeting at ASC clubrooms at 12.30 for an afternoon of training and short course sailing on a slalom course. Past and present Laser sailors welcome. with further information on

There is Athletics Victoria meeting at Lakeside Stadium across the 25/26 February weekend. We are contacting Parks Victoria re: allowing members with annual parking permits to park in gravel areas. We will put out ASC sandwich boards in these areas if these arrangements are in place. Also be aware that Lakeside Drive, on St Kilda Road side of Lake, will be closed for Grand Prix works for extended periods till end of March.

There was a good turnout of ASC junior sailors in the Lidgett Trophy Regatta at Davey’s Bay last weekend. The Optimist class was by far the largest class and was split into 5 divisions. Congratulations and well done to Hamish and Nigel who were the winners of the Optimist Gold and Novice Green divisions.

Thursday Snippets, 16 February

Summer Series 2 club race on Saturday 18th at 2.30. Week 2 of the February Learn to Sail course in the morning from 9.30, and junior green fleet sailing from 1pm.
ASC is hosting a twilight social sail on Wednesday 22 February. Come down for a sail on the lake and join us for a BBQ afterwards. Please bring a salad if you can and send an email to naomiburmika@gmail.com if you know you will definitely be able to make it or have a question. Club members are also welcome to come and just sit on the deck with a drink and watch the sun set over the city! This is a followup to the successful twilight sail in late January.
Well done to Owen McMahon on winning the Victorian Laser Radial Masters titles at Geelong on 11/12 February. Owen won 4 of 5 heats in a competitive fleet of 18 Radials. sailed by men and women over 35 years of age. On the 18/19 weekend there are a number of our ASC Opti class juniors sailing in the 18th annual Lidgett Cup at Davey’s Bay Yacht Club and we look forward to their report and results.
A late reminder of the Sarah Blanck two day training and short races event for Women and Girls at Sorrento SCBC all day on both 4 & 5 March. This is Victoria’s best event for Women and Girls at all levels of experience with Olympic sailors and coaches. ASC’s CindyTilbrook will be involved in race management across the weekend and is a good person to talk to about the event. Final online entries close this coming weekend.

On Saturday 4th February is the Annual Top of the Bay Regatta at Elwood Sailing club at 2pm, with details on Elwood SC website. Commencing on Sunday 5 February is the Learn to Sail program of 8 sessions for an adult group across the weekends in February. Late enrolments possible up to Friday evening – email training@albertsc.org.au and see details on club website. No club racing at Albert Park Lake on 4th. The club will be open on sunday 5th from 9am to 4pm, for Learn to Sail program and members who may want to sail or use the club facilities.

Upcoming – ASC’s summer club racing resumes on 11 February from 2.30, with club races each Saturday up to the March long weekend.

On Friday 3 February the Women & Girls Group from Australian Sailing have booked to be at ASC from around 5.30 for a sail, food and drinks, with ASC women & Girls invited and most welcome. Email sailing@albertsc or speak to Don McKenzie for further details.

WANTED A foldup table tennis table. If you have such a table or know of one not being used which could be donated or sold cheaply to ASC speak to Edwige Kozinski or send an email to sailing@albertsc.org.au. Table with net, bats and balls, would be even better.

Australia Day Greetings. On the 28/29 Jan weekend there is no club sailing on the saturday. Social sailing on sunday with the club open 10am to at least 3pm and members, friends and visitors welcome. No ASC club racing on 4th but highly likely to be some sailing on Albert Park Lake.
