Another big weekend of sailing on the 5th and 6th August with a full club sailing day on saturday and two class coaching events on sunday. On saturday morning there is a session for newer and less experienced members sailing own boat or a club boat, including Zests, Sabre and Laser. Rigging of boats 9 to 10am, followed by 20 minutes briefing in clubrooms, boat launching and a short informal race from 10.50. Winter Handicap Series club race in the afternoon from 2pm. On sunday from 10am the Laser Association’s 4.7 group is out from the Boatshed next door. The VIODA junior Optimist class Winter coaching program fom Albert Sailing Club 1 – 4pm.

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September Citysail Coaching and Racing Regatta on Albert Park Lake for Women and Girls skippers to be sailed from Albert Park Yacht Club. A combination of morning coaching sessions and short course racing and coaching in the afternoons, with coaching in  small groups based on experience and ability. Citysail was Victoria’s most popular women’s dinghy sailing weekend in 2022, with over 40 participants. Details and bookings on https://www.apyc.org.au/wintersail.html. Thursday Snippets, 27 July

Last weekend’s weekend was the opposite of that for the previous month, with light variable winds leading to a delayed start on eventual abandonment for the saturday afternoon race, and similarly light for sunday. Looking for ward to better sailing conditions on the last weekend of July. ASC-APYC club race on saturday with division starts from 2pm and Information session and signon at 1.15 at Albert Sailing Club. On sunday another VIODA Optimist Class Winter Coaching session.

There is a similar program for the first weekend of August with addition of an informal morning race on saturday 5th with boat rigging from 9.30 to 10, an extended briefing from 10am and a short informal race from 10.50. Subject to favourable forecast. Check the preceding Snippets.

The ASC Social committee group has a Zoom meet midweek in early August. Others welcome to join. The social survey released in early July closes on Monday 31st July.  If not yer completed click on ASC Social Survey

Thursday Snippets, 20 July

Two weekends with sailing activity at Albert Sailing Club on both saturday and sunday for the last two weekends in July.   
ASC-APYC club races on saturdays from 2pm, with the club open from 10.30 and the Information session for the club race at 1.15.
On the sundays 1-4pm there is the VIODA Optimist Class Winter Coaching Block 2  1 – 4pm, with 30 junior Optimist sailors from Victorian clubs sailing in green fleet, intermediate and open groups.
 Also on these sundays 10 – 12 noon is the Victorian Laser Association 4 week Laser 4.7 coaching program based at the Albert Park Boatshed next door.

Thursday Snippets, 13 July

The combined Albert Sailing Club winter season re-commences on saturday 15th, with ASC-APYC club race from 2pm. Information session at 1.15 at Albert Sailing Club.

On sunday 16th July we host the VIODA Optimist Class Winter Coaching Block 2 four week program from Albert Sailing Club 1 – 4pm. Welcome back to the  thirty plus junior Optimist sailors, their support crews, and their five coaches. Also to the Victorian Laser Association 4 week Laser 4.7 coaching program participants for their program on Albert Park Lake based on the next four sunday mornings  based at the Boatshed next door.

Thursday Snippets, 6 July

From Friday 7th to Sunday 9th July Wintersail junior Coaching Regatta from Albert Park Yacht Club, so no ASC or APYC club sailing on the weekend. There are 35 juniors registered in Wintersail, with 3 from ASC. Hoping for better weather than forecast.

Club Winter Season resumes on saturday 15 July with club races weekly at 2pm.

ASC Social Committee
The ASC Social Committee has recently reformed. They are looking to better understand the type and frequency of social events that the members would like to see. To assist, they have pulled together a short 2 minute survey. To complete click on ASC Social Survey
It would be appreciated if you could spare the time to complete the survey over the next week or so, that way the Social Committee can start planning the club social calendar as the weather starts warming up.

ASC’s Hamish Gilsenan is sailing th ILCA6 Laser Youth World Championships in Poland from 4 – 9 July. 260 boats boats in Men’s youth fleet with 4 fleets of 65 boats sailing 2 races per day in preliminary rounds. Hamish had a great start with a win in his first fleet race followed by three top 20 fleet placings. Thursday Snippets, 29 June

Albert Sailing Club’s annual ‘Top of the Lake’ regatta went off well on the 24/25 June weekend with 40 odd boats competing in a series of five short course races. A short Regatta highlights video can be found on https://youtu.be/orkZObLBBcM . This includes action when the ‘front’ came through on the saturday afternoon. When open video clip click on the cog wheel and check on 720p quality.

Another club day on saturday 1st July, as part of our winter season. In the afternoon there is a Handicap Series race at 2pm. This will be followed by a club BBQ and at 5pm Presentations for the combined ASC and APYC series for 2022 – 23. ASC and APYC members encouraged to take in the BBQ and attend the informal 15 minutes of trophy presentations at 5.

In the morning of saturday 1st there will be a short informal race at 11,with an Information Session at 10.30 . Members can either sail a club boat or your own boat. .There will be an informal meet of newer members in the clubrooms from 9.20 to chat about ideas for the club’s sailing program and activities in 2023 – 2024.

Thursday Snippets, 22 June

Albert Sailing Club’s annual Top of the Lake Regatta this Saturday and Sunday. Come down even if you are not sailing and see the short course racing action on the Lake and enjoy the warmth and chatter in the clubrooms.
Late registrations online via www.albertsc.org.au until Friday late, with very late registrations on the day at the clubhouse till 12 noon. Conditions looking good for an excellent weekend of sailing, with as at wednesday medium-strong winds (12-18 knts) predicted for both days,
Stay on for the BBQ and drinks from Doug’s Bar after sailing saturday afternoon.

Thursday Snippets, 15 June

There is a Winter Series club race scheduled for 2pm on saturday 17th June. The weather forecast as of Wednesday evening is looking unfavourable with strong to gale force winds being predicted for Port Phillip
* A call on the club race will be made at lunchtime at club on saturday. When known we will seek to place on club Facebook.
* Given the forecast the morning program on 17th which included a 9.30 meeting for newer members and 11am short informal race will not proceed. They are being scheduled for 2 weeks later on saturday 1st July. * The 2022 – 23 Trophy Presentations and BBQ scheduled for 5pm is also being moved to 1st July.
* There will be a mini working bee for those who come down on saturday morning to tidy the club up for the Regatta on the following weekend.
On Sunday 18th June there is Week 4 of the VIODA Optimist Winter Coaching Program. Any updates on this and details of the next Block 2 program  commencing mid July are through VIODA.

On saturday 24th June (pm) and sunday 25th June we have Albert Sailing Club’s annual Top of the Lake Regatta. Notice of Race on club website with entries sought via online link by Wednesday 21st June. Late entries possible online until Friday June 23 and at the club on the day, with entry by 21 June strongly preferred.  Entry required for  Albert Sailing Club and Albert Park Yacht Club who may only be sailing the saturday Winter Series race. Thursday Snippets, 8 June

For the King’s Birthday long weekend we have a weekend off from club sailing on Albert Park Lake. No access to lake before 1030 on saturday due to a Rowing event.

Then two weekends of sailing.
* On saturday 17th there is a Winter Series club race at 2pm, and another short informal race in the morning. 1030 Information Session for an 11am start. Sail your own boat or for club members a club training boat subject to approval on the day. Late afternoon BBQ, Drinks and trophy presentations for the ASC-APYC 2022-23 Series. VIODA Optimist Winter Coaching 1-4pm on sunday 18th.
* Then Albert Sailing Club’s annual Top of the Lake Regatta on saturday 24th June (pm) and sunday 25th June. The water level in the lake is at its maximum and we have our fingers crossed for some more warmer than average daytime temperatures.
Use the online link on the club website to enter the Regatta. This includes Albert Sailing Club and Albert Park Yacht Club who may only be sailing the saturday Winter Series race. Contact Cindy via admin@albertsc.org.au if you can assist at the Regatta on or off water.

Winter has arrived ! Club sailing Day on saturday 3rd June, with club race at 2pm. Week 3 of 4 week VIODA Optimist winter coaching program on sunday afternoon.

Kings Birthday Long Weekend 10 – 12 June no club or VIODA sailing on Albert Park Lake, and club and boatyard not open other than for members with access key.
Sorrento SCBC has its annual Mid Winters on 10th and 11th for Laser, Sabre and Optimist classes.
