A busy first two weeks of December
* Last two Club Sailing Days for 2025 on saturday 7th (including morning informal race or casual sailing) and 14th December.
* Hall Hire for a private function from 5.30 pm on Saturday 7 December.
* Annual end of year Festive Season Dinner on saturday 14 December. Final bookings by sunday 8 December.
* December General committee meeting in ASC clubrooms on tuesday 9 December.

DECEMBER SAILING DAYS
7th December
– Morning informal race or casual sailing. Sail own boat or club training boat, with allocations on the day. Club open from 9.30. Information Session in clubrooms at 10.30 for 11.
– Also Mirror Class Association Training morning based at Albert Park Yacht Club with current State Champion Raf Heale . Registrations for MCAV session required by 7pm Thursday 5th (with payment) on MirrorsVic Facebook.
– Spring Series club race from 2.30, with Info Session at APYC at 1.45.
14th December
ASC run Trophy Race with format revealed on the day. Sign on at ASC by 1.15 for 1.45 Information Session. Casual sailing option. Any volunteers for RHIBs email Rod via training@albertsc.org.au

FESTIVE SEASON DINNER FINAL BOOKINGS
The club’s annual Festive Season Dinner is on Saturday 14 December commencing 6 p.m, with pre chat and drinks in our club lounge. Book via the link on the home page of www.albertsc.org.au. Volunteers to assist with setup and preparations on the night please contact Cindy via admin@albertsc.org.au

HALL HIRE: The club hall has been hired for an evening private function of a club member on Saturday 7 December. Sailors and others, order final drinks from Doug’s Bar and collect all of your personal items from the galley/upstairs by 5pm, and can stay on till 5.30.

BOATS FOR SALE including a wooden 125 family boat and a couple of wooden Sabres have been added onto the noticeboard near the downstairs Sign On/Sign Off area.

As we approach December we have
* Club Sailing Day on saturday 30th with final Learn to Sail group session in morning, lunchtime Sausage Sizzle BBQ for members to welcome new members, and club race from 2.30.
* Or club’s Annual end of year Festive Season Dinner on saturday 14 December. For members, partners and families.Book online or at club by 5 December
* Hall Hire for a private function from 5pm on Saturday 7 December.
* Annual Sail Melbourne Regatta for Olympic and invited off the beach classes at Royal Brighton from 28 November.
* Black Friday Sales, with some good deals from Boating and Outdoor stockists including Whitworths, Decathlon and Annaconda.

FESTIVE SEASON DINNER: BOOK NOW
The club’s annual Festive Season Dinner will be on Saturday 14 December commencing at 6 p.m. Bookings are required no later than Dec 5th. Come along and enjoy a spit roast dinner, together with pre-dinner nibbles, salads, delicious desserts, vegetarian/gluten-free options, and some fun and frivolity. HALL HIRE:  members please note that the hall has been hired for a private function of a club member on Saturday 7 December.  There will therefore be no access upstairs after 5 p.m. on that day. Sailors and others, please ensure that you have collected all of your personal items from the galley/upstairs prior to that time.

SAIL MELBOURNE hosted by Royal Melbourne Yacht Club from 28 November to 2 December is for Olympic and Invited Off the Beach classes. This has been the largest Regatta for off the Beach classes in the Southern Hemisphere, with just over 200 entries this year. The class with by far the largest entry continues to be the ILCA (Laser) class with 85 entries from all Australian States and a few from overseas across ILCA4, ILCA6 and ILCA7 rigs. Albert Sailing Club’s Hamish Gilsenan is sailing in the strong ILCA7 fleet. The Olympic classes are scheduled to sail 2 or 3 races on all 4 days with warning signals at 1300. Invited classes including Optimist on the weekend. Courses are out in Port Phillip, with the best viewing for IQ Foil and Kite Foil classes from the Brighton beach South of Royal Brighton. Saturday 23rd club open from 10.30 with Spring Season Club Race from 2.30 and Information Session upstairs at APYC at 1.15. If there is a member not sailing on saturday who could do ‘RHIB jockey” at front of ASC 2nd RHIB on saturday afternoon, contact Rod via sailing@albertsc.org.au.
Sunday 17th is week 3 of the Spring Learn to Sail course 9.30 to 4.30.

SAVE THE DATE for FESTIVE SEASON FUNCTION SATURDAY 14 DECEMBER, The catered meal and format will be similar to previous years’ popular events, with subsidised cost for members and partners. Lock this date into your diary now. More details and the booking link will be out in the next week or so.

Sad new of the recent passing of Ian “Wallie” Wall with tributes in the post of 11 November on https://www.facebook.com/AustSailVIC/  Ian was very active with Yachting Victoria in the 1980’s to 2020 ‘s managing YV’s Moblie Boat School, introduced sailing to tens of thousands of Victorian school students, training Sailing instructors and race management at many Victorian Regattas including on Albert Park Lake.

Albert Sailing Club is one of 42 sports clubs in the Albert Park Reserve managed by Parks Victoria.There is an active Albert Park Sports Club Association which meets every 2 to 3 months to hear and discuss updates from Parks Victoria, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and the Association Executive and Clubs. ASC’s Commodore Greg and Rear Commodore Rod attend these meetings and raise issues effecting our club and Lake USers more generally. Thursday Snippets, 14 November

Saturday 16th. Club open from 10.30 with Spring Season Club Race from 2.30 and Information Session upstairs at ASC at 1.15.
Sunday 17th week 2 of our Spring Learn to Sail course 9.30 to 4.30. Week one on sunday 10th went well, and we welcomed 8 new adult members to the club and sailing on Albert Park Lake.
On Friday check weekend forecasts on BOM or similar, as looking windy in midweek forecasts.

Photo of Public Interest in some of Victorian Task Force 72 Association’s scale model boats boats on Lake foreshore. The group meets mid morning to mid afternoon on the first sunday of each month on the foreshore in front of the Albert Sailing Club where they display boats and undertake on water exercises. The fleet consists of a mixture of working models and those under construction including: destroyers, frigates, corvettes and submarines as well as support craft, ocean going tugs and coastguard vessels. One of Task Force 72’s oganisers, Haig is a member of Albert Sailing Club and enjoys sharing the ambience of the area in front of Albert Sailing Club for the Group’s activities. Sunday 10th November Albert Sailing Club’s Spring Learn to Sail course commences. For members, and current non members who join the club. Course sailed in RS Zests am and pm on 10, 17 and 24 November, and am on 30th. On saturday 2nd November we had a nice relaxing Derby Day Party and Social Sailing Day.

No club racing on 2nd November. Don’t be disappointed, come along and join us for our Spring Racing Carnival DERBY PARTY. Attention Sabre Sailors – Sabre Tricks and Tips Session,  9th November
Experienced Albert Park Yacht Club members are having a morning session on Sabres. Discussion on improving your rigging, boat tuning and how to get the most out of your sail and boat settings. Everyone welcome (APYC, ASC members and visitors), with a lot of the concepts suitable for most boats.

Arrive at APYC clubrooms on time at 9:30 and rig your boat (if you have one) ready to start the session at 9:45 sharp. The session will run through to around midday.

and Upcoming in November is the club’s Spring Learn to Sail program and the recently programmed casual Derby Day Party on the Lake and in our clubrooms.

On the 19th/20th October weekend
* The Spring Season race on 19th has division starts from 2.30pm with 1.30 Information Session at APYC.
* Albert Sailing Club’s annual Discover Sailing Public Open Day 10am to 2pm on Sunday 20th. Invite family and friends down to try sailing with us on Albert Park Lake and discover our club and its facilities. Also for club members who sail less regularly to come and sail. The forecast 3 days out looks promising, and much better than last year’s Day. No costs involved, and this includes the Sausage Sizzle on the upstairs decking at lunchtime.
Pre-registration preferred on  www.albertsc.org.au with a Registration link for Visitors and a separate link for volunteers who can assist for all or some of the day. There will be a registration desk for walkups on the day.

Thursday Snippets, 10 October

Club sailing each saturday in October, with afternoon club races now from 2.30pm with change of clocks to Daylight saving.
On saturday 12 October Members Information meeting in our clubrooms from 11.30am.This is an important meetings for discussion of the future of our club and sailing on the Lake with the key agenda item covered in the email sent to members on 25th September.

As part of the Opening Day for the Spring Sailing Season on saturday 5th October there was a Ladies Bracelet Trophy Race. Ron Fergusson had a big win in his Aero 7 in the race shortened then abandoned as the Thunderstorms approached. Well done and thanks to APYC’s David Weston and David Emery for making the perpetual trophy and David Weston the quality metallic chain bracelet.

Thursday Snippets, 3 October

This week’s Snippets covers “
* Spring Opening on Saturday 5th October with morning and afternoon sailing options.
* Annual Discover Sailing Public Open Day on Sunday 20th October
* Spring Learn to Sail program commencing Sunday 10th November

* On 5th October we recommence our monthly saturday morning Informal Race or casual sailing for members. Briefing in clubrooms at 1010 for 1100  start.
The afternoon has a short Opening of the Season welcome in the APYC clubrooms at 1pm, with involvement of ASC’s Commodore Greg Ryan. 1.45 Information Session in front of APYC clubrooms for 2.15 Opening Day Sailpast and Ladies Bracelet trophy race at 2.30.
ASC club training boats available to members for hire for am and pm sailing. If the weather is OK we plan to take the club’s RS Quest out for the Sailpast and for the following race. If interested in crewing on the Quest send an email to Rod via training@albertsc.org.au.

Have you been following the Louis Vutton America’s Cup finals between the Italian and British boats?  75 feet foiling monohull boats this week sailing in 20 knot winds with top speed over 100 kms per hour. Complete races available on You Tube. Race 4 from early in the week shows the racing at its best in strong winds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOAEdZIo4g8  Also very energetic cycling by the trimmer crew.
