March Labour Day long weekend on weekend of 6 to 8 March. No organised club racing or training programs on Lake this weekend, but sure to be some down on saturday or sunday for a casual social sail. We have a number of members involved in State titles over the weekend. Fair winds and good sailing Faye in Sabres at McCrae, Nigel in Optis at RYCV, Williamstown, and Cindy who is Race Officer for the Taipan catamaran titles at Westernport.
Next club sailing days are on 13th and 14th March, with club racing from 2.30 on saturday 13th, and final day of the Summer Learn to Sail course all day on the sunday,

On Sunday the 28th of March, Albert Sailing Club will be hosting a social picnic and sailing day for new, temporary, existing and former members and their families.
Activities will include sailing, touring the lake, with club training boats and kayaks available for the invited groups. When not sailing, acquaint or re-aquaint yourself with the club and meet new members, on the deck or foreshore. An email mail-out will go out in the next couple of weeks with full details. The conditions on the weekend are looking good for fair weather sailors. On saturday afternoon there is a club race at 2.30 and ASC/Boatshed junior development program from 2pm. The Learn to Sail group will be out in club Zests for a full day session on sunday. The club will be open from 10 to 4.30 or so both days, so come down to sail, to watch the sailing or socialise in the club, on the decking or the Lake foreshore.

On the March Labour Day long weekend 6 – 8 March no club activities. The following weekend club activities on both days as per the 27/28th February weekend.
On sunday 28 March we will have an ASC club picnic day for sailing and socialising for ASC members, their families and friends. More details in next couple of weeks. We will need some members to help out with supervising club boats and other activities on the day – speak with Tony Schalken from our ASC committee if you can assist.
On wednesday 24th there was a Volunteer Appreciation dinner at Sandringham Yacht club for around 200 people who provided volunteer support at the very successful Laser 2020 Australian and World Laser Championships at Sandringham in January and February 2020. Charles and Rita Bagossy and Rod and Mandy Thomas from ASC were among the guests. Thursday Snippets, 18 February
ASC members can return to sailing and use of club facilities from midnight on Wednesday 17th in line with the Premier’s new directions. The following updates apply.
1) All ASC Members and visitors can return to using our club with no restricted reasons to visit, no time limits and no geographical restrictions.
2) Recreational boating: Everyone can go sailing and go boating whenever they want for as long as they want. (sundays and wednesday afternoons in particular have seen members out sailing on the Lake and this can now resume).
3) On-water: all Club organised on-water activities resume on saturday.
* Learn to Sail course session 9.30 to 12.30
* Club race from 2.30pm. Information Session at front of ASC at 1.45. BBQ and drinks on club decking after sailing.
* Junior and youth development programs, commencing at 2pm.
Observe group limits of up to 20 people per group in the foreshore areas in front of the clubhouse.
We have a number of club members sailing in the Sail Sandy Regatta for off the beach classes at Sandringham across the weekend, with 150+ entries . As per the post on the SYC FacebookThe regatta is proceeding with some modifications to onshore arrangements, and so good sailing to the participating ASC members.
Please remember when coming to ASC lets keep the virus at bay by doing all the right things including : everyone to sign in using QR code or filling in foyer form, social distancing, wearing a face covering indoors and outdoors when distancing not possible and practising good hygiene. On weekend of 13/14 February mild conditions with moderate winds forecast both days. ASC junior development programs saturday afternoon and learn to sail program all day sunday. No club racing on saturday but expect there to be members from ASC and APYC down casual sailing in the afternoon. This saturday is the interclub Top of the Bay Regatta for clubs at top end of Port Phillip this year being hosted by Williamstown Sailing Club. Race Documents including Entry Form under Regattas on https://www.williamstownsailingclub.org.au/regatta-racing/top-of-the-bay/ Ideally scan and forward entry form on Friday. Boats will launch from Williamstown and Port Melbourne Yacht Club at around 1pm. Visitors whether sailing or not welcome at both clubs over lunchtime and after race.
ASC’s Faye MacKenzie is sailing the Sabre State titles over the weekend at MacCrae Yacht Club. There will be the biggest fleet for a State title for at least 5 years with 78 entries as at 6pm on wednesday.
The next club race will be on saturday 20th February, with a 2.30 start.

A full day of activities at Albert Sailing Club on saturday 6th February, including commencement of our Term 1 training and development programs. This kicks off with the Summer adult and youth Learn to Sail program from 9.30 to 12.30. Then the ASC/Boatshed junior development program in Ozi Optis and Youth development programs in Pacers from 2 to 4.30pm. A big welcome to the people joining the club for these programs. The weekly Summer season club race is from 2.30, with sign on and briefing at APYC.
We continue to closely monitor Victorian Government COVID19 updates and changes to public health directions. The club’s COVID19 Safe Plan, with an emphasis on club and personal responsibilities, is on our club website. The Government’s updated directions from 3 February had no changes effecting community sport other than the general requirement for face masks to be worn inside public indoor spaces, which includes our clubrooms. Any further updates effecting club operations will be placed on our club website www.albertsc.org.au.
During the week a credit card was found in the club galley. Check with Galley volunteers or Rod if this may have been yours.

Thursday Snippets, 28 January
Saturday 30th January our weekly club sailing days resume. Club open from 10.30am and club race from 2.30. Our Commodore Cindy is the Race Officer and the briefing and signon will be from in front of ASC clubrooms. From saturday the club galley will again be open at this stage for sandwiches, rolls, snacks/cakes, with tea and coffee available. Cash transactions only as our Tyro machine is currently unavailable. The galley people will be gloved and wearing masks. Please observe social distancing at the galley servery and at tables, with wiping down of tables after use. Thanks Sue for re stocking and setting up the Galley for re-opening. After sailing there will be a BBQ on the club decking and drinks from the club bar.
The next ASC Learn to Sail program at ASC for adults and youth starts next week with two saturday morning and two full sundays from 6 February. Details and signup via the Learn to Sail link on our club website www.albertsc.org.au. Junior Learn to Sail is through the Albert Park Boatshed Tackers programws with details on their website.
The Boatshed/ASC Junior and Youth Development Term 1 programs on saturday afternoons also commence on saturday 6 February. Programs for juniors (8 – 12 years) and youth (13 – 16years) who have undertaken Learn to Sail or equivalent programs. Details and links provided through the Home page of www.albertsc.org.au.
The SEDA educational group will be back using our clubrooms from Monday 1st February. For Term 1 8.30 to 3.30 Mon-Fri. with some out of venue sessions on some days. Club members can still use the clubrooms and decking during the week, but be considerate of the SEDA activities which may be in progress.

Thursday Snippets, 17 December
To finish off the year on Friday 18th December there will be a late afternoon/twilight sailing session at ASC with an informal early evening BBQ and drinks on the club decking. Club open from around 4pm. There will be some club boats avaialble for use by members and their families if the conditions are suitable. The forecast as at Wednesday evening is for 10 – 15 knot South Westerlies with a maximum temperature of 19 degrees, If the forecast changes check our club website for any late changes in arrangements.
APYC is conducting a scratch race on saturday 19th at 2.30pm and has iissued an invite to ASC members who are looking for a sail on the Lake on saturday. There are sure to be some from ASC who will sail and we can expect some people to be at the club from late morning. Also rescheduled week 4 of the Spring Boatshed/ASC programs.

Thursday Snippets, 10 December
On saturday 12th December we have our final club sailing day for 2020 with a full day of club activity. Clubroom open from 10.30. At lunchtime there is a BYO picnic on the foreshore in front of the club. In the afternoon Life Members trophy race at 2.30 and week 3 of 4 week junior and youth development programs. After sailing there will be a Christmas Breakup BBQ and drinks on the club decking and in the clubhouse with an invite to all members, their families and our club conatcts. Food from the BBQ, christmas cake and drinks from the club bar, supplemented by any foods you bring along for yourself.
To finish off the year on Friday 18th December there will be a late afternoon/twilight sailing session with an informal BBQ and drinks from around 6.30 on the club decking. As always check forecast a day or so in advance and the club website for any late update.

Thursday Snippets, 11 March
Albert Sailing Club has two full days of sailing activities on the 13th and 14th March weekend., On saturday there is a Summer Series club race from 2.30 and junior development programs from 2pm. Also an informal meeting of members in the clubrooms from 12 noon to provide a further update on ASC-APYC unification discussions and the 2021/22 committee to be formed at the AGM in early May. Please come along, and yes you can bring your lunch.
On sunday there is the final day of the Summer Learn to Sail course all day from 9.30. Casual sailing option both saturday and sunday.
On the last two weekends there have been successes for ASC members in State title events with Michael Horvarth and Anthony Berger winners in the Hartley TS16 trailables state titles and Hamish Gilsenan the Laser 4.7’s winner in the NSW and ACT Metro championships on Sydney Harbour.

On Friday 19th March we are hosting an ASC New Member Welcome dinner to welcome newer club members to the club. Club members and their families are welcome to attend to meet and socialise with the new members. A delicious spit-roast dinner will be provided (vegetarian options available) and the bar will be open. There is a social sailing option in the latter part of the afternoon, with club training boats available. The evening commences at 6.30 p.m.

On Sunday the 28th of March, ASC Picnic and Social Sailing Day. For new, temporary, existing and former members and their families. On water activities options include sailing in the Northern basin and touring the lake, with club sail boats and kayaks available till 3.30pm or use your own craft. For juniors there will be a supervised sailing session from 10am to 11.30am with experienced club members. Bring your sailing gear.
