Thursday Snippets, 21 November

Our sailing on Saturday 23rd has the club open from 10am, with club race from 2.30pm. Then on sunday there is a social sailing day from 10am and next Learn to Sail course session all day. Club training boats available for member use both days.
Three members Rod, and two of our juniors Hamish and Jack are sailing Lasers in the Victorian Laser Championships at Sandringham across the weekend. Over 100 entries with entrants from interstate and overseas using the event as a leadup to national and world championships in January and February.
The Australian Sailing Boatshed has a Sailing Coach Course 6th – 8th December 2019, and are offering females 50% discount through a State Government grant. Any female members interested in becoming an instructor should speak to our training principal Don McKenzie or send him an email via training@albertsc.org.au.

Thursday Snippets, 14 November

Saturday 16th the club will be open from 9.30 for casual sailing and the Learn to Sail program. At 11.30 a.m. there will be another ‘Commodore’s Chat’ informal member information session. Come along and find out what’s happening around the club and have your questions (if any) ready.   Spring Season race at 2.30. Next twilight Sail and Social Evening with Sausage Sizzle will be on  Thursday 21st November  from 4.30pm (not Tuesday 19th as previously listed). Join us for a pleasant late afternoon/ early evening sailing and/or socialising in one of the best scenic locations in Melbourne. (Check www.albertsc.org.au on the Wednesday night to confirm).

Thursday Snippets, 7 November

The Friday 8th November Sail and Social twilight event at ASC has been CANCELLED due to unsuitable weather, with rain, hail, possible thunder and winds  at >18 Knts predicted over the course of the day.  The next scheduled Sail and Social evening is on Tuesday November 19th – let’s hope for some better weather then.

We have seen some great results from our juniors at the SailCountry regatta held over the long weekend, with Anna Cripsey and her crew 1st in 420’s and Phillip Cripsey 2nd in  Optimists. Hamish Gilsenan was 7th of  24 in Laser 4.7, with a 1st on the Last Race. Congrats to these sailors and our other members who made the long trek to Albury to compete.

Saturday 9th there is Week 2 of the Learn to Sail program in morning, and in the afternoon club Spring Season race at 2.30 and Junior Green Fleet program from 1.30.

There are places available on the Learn to Sail and Junior November Green Fleet programs on Saturdays in November with registrations on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org

November general committee meeting is in our ASC clubrooms on Monday 11th at 7.30.

Thursday Snippets, 31 October

Enjoy the first weekend in November and Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup Day. No scheduled ASC sailing this weekend. There are likely to be a few down on Saturday morning for some casual sailing if the weather is OK. Club sailing resumes following weekend. On Friday 8th there is another in the series of Sail and Social twilights at ASC with club open from 4.30 and BBQ and chat on club decking over dinner time. Then on Saturday 9th there is Week 2 of Learn to Sail program in morning, and in the afternoon club Spring Season race at 2.30 and Junior Green Fleet program from 1.30. There are places available on the Junior November Green Fleet program on saturday afternoons in November with registrations required in the next few days on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org

The next edition of our club’s quarterly Mudpuddler Newsletter is being compiled in mid November. Items of interest including articles, photos, reports, etc. are being sought and should be sent to our Newsletter editor Jamie via mudpuddler@albertsc.org.au by 14th November.

This summer is big for national championships in Victoria. If you are considering entering Impulse or Mirror nationals in late December or Laser or Optimist nationals in January this would be a good weekend to lodge your online entry if you have not already done so.

Thursday Snippets, 24 October

On Saturday 26 October we have club sailing day with Spring race from 2.30pm and ASC Trivia night following packup after racing. The Spring Learn to Sail program then programmed to commence on sunday 27th. No club sailing on 2/3 November weekend. Club sailing then resumes on 9 November with afternoon club race and newly posted 4 week junior Green Fleet program. The ASC Trivia Night is in ASC clubrooms from late afternoon on saturday. Come and enjoy an evening of trivia and socialising. For members, families and friends of ASC and APYC in your own team or allocated to a team. Bring your own dinner, with club providing pre-dinner nibbles and desserts. Dinner from around 6pm and Trivia from 7pm. To assist with arrangements Register as soon as possible.

The Albert Park Junior Green Fleet – November program is on 4 Saturday afternoons 1.30 to 4pm from 9 November. For juniors 8 – 12 years of age who have completed Tackers (1 -3) or a similar Learn to Sail program. Participate in an ASC provided plastic Ozi Opti or your own boat with program lead by an accredited Instructor from The Boatshed. Register at latest by 3 November.

Around 100 people came for a sail at Albert Sailing Club last sunday for our Discover Sailing Public Open Day. Thanks for the members who were involved and assisted with organising and conduct of the day. A range of clubs in Melbourne have a Discover Sailing Day on sunday 27th October, including Albert Park and Port Melbourne Yacht Clubs. Further details on the Australian Sailing website.

Thursday Snippets, 17 October

On Sunday 20th October, 10am – 3pm, there is Albert Sailing Club’s Discover Sailing Public Open Day. People of all ages and levels of experience invited to come along for a sail and to find out more about our club and its activities. Details and Pre-Registration via link on www.albertsc.org.au. Members who are assisting will be briefed prior to commencement.
A twilight Sail and Social Evening with BBQ on Friday 18th October kicks the weekend off. Club open from 4.30 p.m. Join us for a pleasant late afternoon/ early evening in one of the best scenic locations in Melbourne. On Saturday the club is open from 10am with club Spring Series race at 2.30pm and junior Green Fleet program at 1.30. There is a Schools Athletics event at Lakeside Stadium on Saturday. We are re-confirming with Parks Victoria that if parking in Aquatic Drive fills up members with an annual parking permit can park on gravel areas either side of clubhouse. Also endeavouring to book 6 or so spaces designated by bollards behind club for club member vehicle overflow use.

   On Saturday 26 October there is an afternoon club race, followed by the annual Trivia Social Night. Come along for an evening of fun and prizes. Thursday Snippets, 3 October

The club’s Spring racing program commences and runs weekly on Saturdays from 5th October, Club race divisions start from 2pm this week, then from 2.30pm in following weeks. Club training boats available for hire by members both am and pm in October. On Friday 4th October we have the first of our Sail and Social evenings, with the club open from 4pm and BBQ on club decking from around 5.30pm.

The next major club activity is the Discover Sailing Day on sunday 20th October, 10am to 3pm. For people of all ages and levels of experience. The Spring Learn to Sail program follows on commencing sunday 27th October.

In the past week we have had a well attended and enjoyed Members, Family and Friends Picnic Day on Sunday 29th. There was a 3 day junior school holiday program mid week, with six junior participants in a mix of International Optimist and club plastic Ozi Opti boats. On Wednesday Philip Cripsey from ASC sailed day one of the five day Asian and Oceanic Optimist Championship in Oman in the Middle East. Philip is one of ten junior Optimist sailors from Australia, including Scarlett and Matty who sailed at ASC in winter, in a fleet of 150 Optimists.

Thursday Snippets, 26 September

Albert SC Members, Family and Friends Picnic Day on Sunday 29th, with the club open from 10am. Picnic by the Lake or in clubrooms. Club training boats including Quests, Zests and Ozi Optis available for use by members. + some land based activities for children. BYO lunch food. ASC Discover Sailing Public Open Day on sunday 20th October, 10am to 3pm. People of all ages and experience welcome

Tuesday 1st to 3rd October ASC school holiday program . On Wednesday 2nd come along and join few ‘seniors’ members at around 10am for coffee at the Boatshed Café (next to our club).  Option for members to followup with a sail on the club Quest or a Zest or your own boat. Also as per calendar in Mudpuddler the first Friday Evening Sail and Social at ASC from 4pm on 4th October.

The club racing program resumes on Saturday 5th October.

Thursday Snippets, 19 September

Saturday 21st we have 3rd and final Week of the annual Hooper Series, with two races in class divisions from 2pm. Watch at least the start of the Collingwood vs Geelong preliminary final over a drink in the clubhouse after racing.

This weekend Yarrawonga Yacht Club has its 80th birthday celebrations with a function on Saturday evening. Our Commodore Cindy Tilbrook and husband Darrel have driven up for the weekend. Many of us, in particular ex-Mirror sailors have fond memories of sailing in Regattas at Yarrawonga.

Thursday Snippets, 12 September

14/15th September weekend is APYC Women’s and Girls coaching and race regatta on the Lake, with no ASC club racing. Late entrants via APYC website and spectators welcome. Casual sailing on Lake with your own boat possible, but keep out of the way of Regatta boats.

Saturday 21st ASC sailing resumes with 3rd and final Week of the annual Hooper Series. Two races in class divisions from 2pm.
