Thursday Snippets, 3 October

The club’s Spring racing program commences and runs weekly on Saturdays from 5th October, Club race divisions start from 2pm this week, then from 2.30pm in following weeks. Club training boats available for hire by members both am and pm in October. On Friday 4th October we have the first of our Sail and Social evenings, with the club open from 4pm and BBQ on club decking from around 5.30pm.

The next major club activity is the Discover Sailing Day on sunday 20th October, 10am to 3pm. For people of all ages and levels of experience. The Spring Learn to Sail program follows on commencing sunday 27th October.
There are event posts and graphics on club Facebook which can be shared with others. Further details and Pre-Registration via links on www.albertsc.org.au.

In the past week we have had a well attended and enjoyed Members, Family and Friends Picnic Day on Sunday 29th. There was a 3 day junior school holiday program mid week, with six junior participants in a mix of International Optimist and club plastic Ozi Opti boats. On Wednesday Philip Cripsey from ASC sailed day one of the five day Asian and Oceanic Optimist Championship in Oman in the Middle East. Philip is one of ten junior Optimist sailors from Australia, including Scarlett and Matty who sailed at ASC in winter, in a fleet of 150 Optimists.

Thursday Snippets, 26 September

Albert SC Members, Family and Friends Picnic Day on Sunday 29th, with the club open from 10am. Picnic by the Lake or in clubrooms. Club training boats including Quests, Zests and Ozi Optis available for use by members. + some land based activities for children. BYO lunch food. ASC Discover Sailing Public Open Day on sunday 20th October, 10am to 3pm. People of all ages and experience welcome

Tuesday 1st to 3rd October ASC school holiday program . On Wednesday 2nd come along and join few ‘seniors’ members at around 10am for coffee at the Boatshed Café (next to our club).  Option for members to followup with a sail on the club Quest or a Zest or your own boat. Also as per calendar in Mudpuddler the first Friday Evening Sail and Social at ASC from 4pm on 4th October.

The club racing program resumes on Saturday 5th October.

Thursday Snippets, 19 September

Saturday 21st we have 3rd and final Week of the annual Hooper Series, with two races in class divisions from 2pm. Watch at least the start of the Collingwood vs Geelong preliminary final over a drink in the clubhouse after racing.

This weekend Yarrawonga Yacht Club has its 80th birthday celebrations with a function on Saturday evening. Our Commodore Cindy Tilbrook and husband Darrel have driven up for the weekend. Many of us, in particular ex-Mirror sailors have fond memories of sailing in Regattas at Yarrawonga.

Thursday Snippets, 12 September

14/15th September weekend is APYC Women’s and Girls coaching and race regatta on the Lake, with no ASC club racing. Late entrants via APYC website and spectators welcome. Casual sailing on Lake with your own boat possible, but keep out of the way of Regatta boats.

Saturday 21st ASC sailing resumes with 3rd and final Week of the annual Hooper Series. Two races in class divisions from 2pm.

Thursday Snippets, 5 September

Another big weekend of sailing at ASC 7th and 8th September. On Saturday, there is annual junior Verna Templeton event in club RS Zest boats , with juniors to sign on by 9.45 for short races from 10.30. Hooper Series short club races from 2pm. Then on sunday the final week of Laser 4.7 and Optimist class winter training programs from 1pm, with final Laser 4.7 Have A Go in a VLA Laser 4.7 from 10.30am. On top of all that the club is hosting a VIODA Optimist Class girls and Mum’s sailing and social weekend across Saturday and Sunday. The weekend weather forecast two days out is for cooler temperatures with moderate West to South West winds, and is worth checking Friday evening.

14/15th September weekend is APYC Women’s and Girls coaching and race regatta on the Lake, with no ASC club racing. ASC sailing resumes on Saturday 21st with Week 3 of Hooper Series

Thursday Snippets, 29 August

On saturday 31st August there is a club Working Bee from 9.15, an informal Member’s meeting at 11 a.m., and week 1 of the 3 week annual Bill Hooper Series from 2pm. VIODA Optimist winter training again on sunday afternoon.
On 7th September the resail of the annual Verna Templeton Race for juniors will be sailed in club RS Zests in the morning. For ASC Juniors at all levels of experience to skipper or crew, with sign on by 10am for 10.30 start. Bill Hooper Series Week 2 club races in the afternoon.

Thursday Snippets, 22 August

A full weekend at ASC 24th and 25th August. On Saturday club open from 9.30am with final Winter Series club race at 2pm. There is a Sabre class coaching session at APYC from 9.30. On sunday there is monthly Social Sailing Day from 10am with club training boats available for members. Also a Try sailing Laser 4.7 class boat session from 10.30, and VIODA Optimist and Laser 4.7 winter training programs from 1pm. As always check the weekend weather forecasts.

Thursday Snippets, 15 August

Another full weekend of sailing at ASC 17th and 18th August. On Saturday club race at 2pm and week 1 of a 2 week Better Sailing program from 9.30am. The Better Sailing sessions are primarily directed at newer adult members who joined in 2018/19, with details and registration under Upcoming Events on https://albertsailingclub.wildapricot.org/ The weather forecast for Saturday, two days out, is promising with maximum temperature of 18 and winds around 10 knots. On sunday there is week 2 of Laser 4.7 class programs am and pm and another VIODA Optimist winter training program from 1pm, with windier conditions forecast.

The ASC winter season results have been loaded onto “Race Results PDF Format” tab under Sailing on our club website. The usual Race Results link has been out of action for a number of weeks, and a fix is being pursued.

Thursday Snippets, 8 August

Bring out the wetsuits and beanies for two days of true winter sailing at Albert Sailing Club on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th August. Winter series club race at 2pm on Saturday, with ASC BBQ and ‘hot toddies’ from Doug’s Bar after racing. On sunday there are Laser 4.7 class programs am and pm and another VIODA Optimist winter training program from 1pm. There will also be a First Aid course all day in the clubrooms for Instructors and key race personnel from ASC and a couple of other clubs.

The two Laser 4.7 programs are on four sundays from 11th August to 8th September. From 10.30 am ‘Have a Go’ in a Laser Association(VLA) Laser 4.7 or your own Laser. Sail on one or more sundays with no cost to participate. A VLA Squad Coaching program will be on four sundays commencing with a session from 1pm to 3.30pm on the 11th. This program is directed at newer Laser 4.7 sailors with their own boat or a pre-booked VLA hire boat.  More details of both programs and the link to Registration for the Squad program has been posted to the Albert Sailing Club Facebook.

On the weekend of 17th/18th August the previous weekend two day sailing program will be repeated, with addition week 1 of a 2 week Better Sailing program on Saturday mornings. Thursday Snippets, 25 July

Another busy weekend 27th/28th July. Club open on Saturday from 10am with club winter race from 2pm, including adult and junior classes and green fleet divisions. Social sailing day on Sunday from 10am. Sail your own boat or for ASC members a club training boat. The club’s RS Quest is likely to be sailing, if weather is suitable. Week 2 of VIODA Optimist winter training program on Sunday afternoon. After sailing on Saturday APYC has a Christmas in July function in their clubrooms to which ASC members invited. Now self catering, with fund raiser hampers for Eren Hyde legacy. No Cover Charge.

17th or 24th August a Sabre rigging coaching session is being planned on the Lake involving Alan Riley, the current Australian Sabre Champion. Open to Sabre sailors from APYC and ASC. If you would like to participate speak to David Emery at APYC or email him at shohdo@gmail.com.

31st August, 7th and 21st September annual Bill Hooper series. A good opportunity to start your Spring sailing, in your own boat or a club training boat for ASC members.
7th and 8th September VIODA Optimist class Girls Camp weekend at ASC. Training, some short races, and fun. This is the fourth year this popular event has been hosted by ASC. For junior Optimist sailors (and their mum’s) from ASC and other Victorian sailing clubs.
