Thursday Snippets, 27 June

The ASC winter season continues with a club race at 2pm on Saturday 29th June and a social sailing day on Sunday 30th from 10am to 3pm. Sail your own boat or for club members a club training boat on either or both days (subject to weather conditions, which BOM Wednesday evening predicts 10 to 15 knot winds both days).

The link for visitors from other clubs to join as a Winter Associate Member to sail with us till end of September is now active and can be accessed from the home screen of www.albertsc.org.au. Winter associate rates have been discounted due to the late start to the winter season in mid June due to Lake conditions.

The Lake water level is at the level it was last weekend, but will hopefully come up a little more if predicted showers this weekend fall in the Albert Park area. Sailing is still with some centreboard up and aquatic weed areas to be negotiated. Launching from the jetty or the ramp recommended. This week a letter has been sent by our ASC Commodore to the CEO of Parks Victoria again raising concerns at the condition of Albert Park Lake over the last few months. Thursday Snippets, 13 June

The Albert Sailing Club winter season is finally going to start on Saturday 15th June, with the club open from 10am, and the first race of the Winter Series from 2pm. Then on Saturday 22nd June, there will be a couple of short races from 2pm as part of the ASC-APYC Challenge. The water level in the Lake has shown some improvement and is back to around the level it was in early March,. Sailing with some of centreboard up will be necessary, with aquatic weed to be negotiated, and launching from the jetty in front of the club or the ramp recommended. The situation will improve with more rains and storm water inflows to the Lake.

From the 15th June the club’s Pacer, Laser, Sabre, and plastic OzI Opti boats will be available for use and hire by club members, depending upon weather conditions. ASC’s Zest, Quest, and International Optimist boats will become available in coming weeks with further improvement in the condition of the Lake
The Club’s annual regatta which was scheduled for 22/23 June, was cancelled earlier in June due to the Lake conditions. As always visitors will be welcome to sail with the ASC fleet in our winter series with club races most saturdays till late September, Be aware that the condition of the Lake as at mid June is not as we would want, but will improve.

Updates on our winter sailing season, including training programs, and the condition of the Lake will continue to be provided weekly in ASC’s Thursday Snippets which is emailed to subscribers and published on Facebook and our club website.

Thursday Snippets, 6 June

No club activities at ASC over the Queens Birthday long weekend. The annual Albert Sailing Club Regatta programmed for 22 and 23 June has been cancelled due to the low water level in Albert Park Lake. Some club sailing activities may resume by then, but the water level will not have returned to a level reasonable for a Regatta event.

We are hoping that with some more rain some training and/or club racing can re-commence on 15th or 22nd June. Keep following Thursday Snippets for Updates.

ASC June committee meeting on Tuesday 11th June at 7.30 in ASC clubrooms.

Thursday Snippets, 30 May

Again due to low water level in the Lake no club racing or green fleet program at ASC on saturday 1st June. There will be an informal BBQ at the club at lunchtime. Has been some rain this week, but not as much in CBD and adjoining suburbs as the outer suburbs. Significant rain and water inflows are still needed to bring the Lake up to a reasonable level for club sailing.
No sailing at ASC programmed for the 8 – 10 June long weekend. There is a Winter Regatta at Sorrento Sailing & Couta Boat club for the hardy types. Hopefully with more rain over the next 2 or 3 weeks we might be back to some sailing on the Lake in the latter half of June. Stay Tuned.

Thursday Snippets, 23 May

On Saturday 25th May there is an informal lunchtime gathering with a BBQ for ASC members and friends from late morning. Also at lunchtime two of our experienced members Jaemie and Anthony and maybe some others are bringing their model sailboats down for a sail around in front of the club, with all welcome to either give it try or watch. Again there is no club sailing this weekend for dinghy classes due to the low water level in the Lake ie no club race or social sailing day. Still looking for decent rains so that we can commence our winter sailing season.

Items for the next ASC Mudpuddler Newsletter are being sought and are needed by 1st June. Send articles (short or long), photos, etc. to mudpuddler@albertsc.org.au. This will be the final issue produced by Naomi and Michael before they head off for an extended overseas trip in August. The club needs a member(s) to volunteer to take over. They have setup a slick process which includes easy to use templates, and printing and distribution arrangements. This is a good opportunity to be involved in producing an attractive and well read newsletter. Email Naomi at mudpuddler@albertsc.org.au if you are interested.

For anyone interested in buying a model sail boat of the type used by Jaemie and Anthony there is a Dreamboat Discount on the Joysway DragonForce 65 V6 RTR (Including transmitter and receiver) at newsletter@hobbywarehouse.com.au

Finally, it is Volunteer Week in Victoria and it is a good time to recognise the various volunteers that offer such good service around the club on an ongoing basis. Our club is a volunteer run club which could not operate without the people involved regularly in on water and shore based activities at the club or at home. If you are a member or a non-member who thinks they may be able to assist in the operation of the club make contact with our Commodore Cindy Tilbrook or a club committee member.

Thursday Snippets, 16 May

Again no club racing or green fleet program at ASC on saturday May 18 owing to the lake’s low water level. APYC have some low key social sailing in the rowing club basin and our members with their own boat have been invited. There will also be a sausage sizzle BBQ on ASC decking at lunchtime for those coming to the club on saturday. On sunday the Hartley TS16 Association will be using the clubrooms for their annual presentation luncheon.

After some rain late last week the water level has shown an increase to a little below that when we stopped sailing altogether in early April. Still need some good rains to get to a level where our on-water program can resume . Keep following Snippet for weekly updates.

Following the club’s AGM on 11 May, the new club committee had its first meeting on Tuesday with Cindy Tilbrook, our new Commodore in the chair, and Tim Falkiner as secretary. Most committee positions were filled at the AGM. The Vice Commodore and a couple of general committee positions are vacant – speak to Cindy if you could help out by taking up one of these or assist with a non general committee role.

The Albert Park Yacht Club have their annual presentation dinner at their clubrooms on Saturday 25th. Cindy is attending. Contact her if you are interested in going and sitting on her table.

Our Mudpuddler editor is looking for photos, articles, stories or other items for the next Mudpuddler newsletter to be published in early June. Send contributions to Naomi on mudpuddler@albertsc.org.au.
